What's a Good Price on Used Original PS3?

Well, I was interested in it because:

1. I don't have a PS3
2. It's backwards compatible
3. I heard it's slightly more powerful than current models


Is there a reason I wouldn't want the original one?

It has the exact same specs. Where did you get the idea that it was more powerful and base a decision to buy an older model on that? I suggest you stop taking advice from that source. Even if it was, it would not matter. The games are all programmed to run at the same settings.

The newer ones run at less energy,which has already been said. Plus they are under warrenty. The launch models are 99.9%, or so, backwards compatible with PS2 games (and PS1).

I think if you keep your eyes open, you'll see some holiday deals at Amazon/Walmart/Target on the PS3. I bought a slim 250GB PS3 Amazon Holiday Bundle for $299. It included some Ratchet game, a Singstar game, two microphones, and $50 credit.

As others mentioned, the slim runs a lot cooler and are more reliable than the old ones.

The "more powerful" flag is because of PS2 capability, PS3 speed still the same. Certain later models have meh software driven PS2 compatibility, no Emotion Chip. My son originally bought a backwards compatibility PS3, turns out never uses PS2 games on it. The PS3 slims do have a better though not perfect reliability factor. Besides PS2 fat is a better choice for the PS2 games because of HDAdvance/HDLoader.

So it sounds like it'd be a better idea, if I'm buying it for myself, to just get a new PS3. If I can buy the older PS3 for around $200, would it be unwise to try to flip it somewhere else for a better price?
