It has the exact same specs. Where did you get the idea that it was more powerful and base a decision to buy an older model on that? I suggest you stop taking advice from that source. Even if it was, it would not matter. The games are all programmed to run at the same settings.
The newer ones run at less energy,which has already been said. Plus they are under warrenty. The launch models are 99.9%, or so, backwards compatible with PS2 games (and PS1).
