There is some undeniable truth to that. But to give credit where it is due, it was the people themselves that first entered Berlin (and convinced Hitler to dine on a Luger). But man, you'd think people would STOP invading Russia right before it gets cold!

In the Pacific, the US went it alone

Where did you pull that piece of fiction?

First I wanted to point out that Australian (as well as New Zealand) troops fought both in New Guinea and the Solomons as well as Borneo. I am guessing these men don't count as anything.

Australia are actually credited with the first defeat of Japanese land forces.

China's involvement in the Pacific Theater was massive (As they too were attacked by Japan).

Now I am done posting in this thread because I hate these topics, but not as much as I hate "America won the war by wielding dual mg's on each arm' style shit.

I guess I should have been specific - I was trying to talk about the naval conflict. The Australians WERE vital to the efforts to secure many of the islands leading up to the actual assault on Japan.

EDIT: Look folks, I don't think that having a little pride in the accomplishments of your country is a zero sum game. Me saying 'I am glad that the US finally got off its butt and helped the rest of the world with their struggle' doesn't equate me saying that the rest of the worlds struggle meant nothing.

I said already that Europe had been fighting for a few years and that Asia had been fighting for nearly 10 by the time the US finally declared war. I could go on at length about the Australians opposing the Japanese to protect the Javanese, the CCP and GMD putting aside their differences, or how the RAF single handedly held the Luftwaffe back. But that's not got anything to do with the US getting involved in the war because of 7 December, 1941.

Please don't assume that by praising my country's 'Greatest Generation' I'm saying that the US won the entire war with a bazooka in one arm, a hot babe in the other, smoking a cigar and saying clever shit to the enemy.

There was debate about this? I thought it was common knowledge that almost all of the recognized nations in the Pacific fought in WWII [not some of the smaller ones, but you get the idea].

You guys had duke nukem in your army?

I think people thought you meant that due to 2 paragraphs in your original post, but you did clear it up later. You just have to understand when you live in a country that was actually part of the war (meaning battles were fought over it and civilians killed) you kind of get touchy when the only nation in the world that actually benefited from WW2, devalues the sacrifice and struggle your country went through.

Stuff like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-571_%28film%29#.22Americanisation.22_of_real_historical_events.

and stuff like making fun of the French cause of France's surrender and saying that they would be speaking German if it wasn't for you, created an unlikeable vibe for your country.

I know this forum is more mature than that, and I get that you just wanted to honor those who fought, but the bad behavior of your less educated country men (we've said it 95% of the world are idiots. Same for every country) creates this tension every time WW2 is brought up, and everyone wants to make sure that the presented facts are checked.

Putting a gaming spin on it, what are your favorite gaming experiences of Dec 7 1941? Personally, I remember being really impressed with the entire sequence in Medal of Honor Rising Sun, the areal fight in Battlestations Pacific, as both the Americans and the Japanese.

Speaking of that fateful day, is the hull of the USS Arizona still leaking oil or was that finally addressed? I remember hearing about it and thought that's gotta be one huge environmental mess.

For someone who was born the same day as Napoleon, Hitler should have at least tried not to commit the same mistakes.

According to Wikipedia Hitler was born on the 20th of April and Napoleon on the 15th of August.

EDIT

And boy was he ugly even as a baby
