I would think that there aren't any legal concerns with the product because it is an officially licensed unit. Perhaps Sega allowed it to include an SD slot for those people who will actually play copies of games they own on it or perhaps Sega just doesn't care if people pirate those roms any longer. Either way, if Sega doesn't care that it includes that feature then I don't see retailers pulling it from shelves because of it.crisis wrote:I'm speaking solely out of discussion with other gamers, so correct me if this isn't accurate.
When the patent for the original 8-bit NES expired, that's when we began to see the NES clones appear at places like Amazon Marketplace. A couple of them had an SD card slot that took ROMs as well. However, I do think those were snatched down in lieu of copyrights still owned on some of the titles.
Did the patent for the Sega Genesis expire? Maybe there was some other proviso with IP regarding publishing of Genesis games. I guess I just can't see Buy.com and a retail outlet like Fry's selling this without it.
I am considering purchasing one if I can find out more information about how it handles other titles. I'm still curious about any possible limitations or other funny stuff with games loaded from SD.

Customers are always bitching about how these types of devices cannot play roms.
But, customers mouths´apparantly are not silenced by offering rom playback.......
Now another discussion emerges.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the capability of rom playback on this.d123456 wrote:Customers are always bitching about how these types of devices cannot play roms.

I picked up the Sega Arcade Motion from a local Walgreens. It's a Wii type of clone with a few Sega titles on board. It, too, has the SD card slot. I'll try it this weekend and see if the ROMs work.
I just hope the extra buttons map to a proper six-button Genny controller.

You know what I don't understand about these Sega plug and plays?
They always include Sonic 1 and 2, and frequently the offshoots Spinball and 3d blast, but not one of these damn systems ever has Sonic 3/& Knuckles.
What's up with that?

Actually, the Gen Mobile has Sonic 3 built-in. I don't know why AtGames just doesn't include all of them at once.CFFJR wrote:You know what I don't understand about these Sega plug and plays?

If anyone is interested in a cheaper, more portable solution - this handheld "Genesis Device" has been around for awhile and is said to feature very good emulation with the available SD card slot.

I didn't know that, I thought it had Sonic and Knuckles but no other Sonic game. Clearly I'm confused.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:Actually, the Gen Mobile has Sonic 3 built-in. I don't know why AtGames just doesn't include all of them at once.
Still though, the point stands. You're right, they should just include them all.

Yeah I know. I was thinking the same thing. It's nice that there's an available port for an "actual" Sega Genesis controller to be used. But supposedly that's only if you want to add a second player.sevin0seven wrote:something tells me i won't like the controller, especially that yellow d-pad.Weekend_Warrior wrote:If anyone is interested in a cheaper, more portable solution - this handheld "Genesis Device" has been around for awhile and is said to feature very good emulation with the available SD card slot.
