Re: Computers, money and other stuff
Actually premade PCs by huge corporations aren't selling at all here, cause there is stiff competition with premade PCs from 3 big retailers which equals better premade PCs at a better price. Mind you can still make a better one if you hand pick your parts, but they are way better than anything I've seen Alienware or HP or whoever prepare. Plus no FUCKING Norton and a ton of stupid applications installed on your PCGeneral_Norris wrote: Alienware is not alone. Have you seen HP? They flood all the stores I see and they are all bad, overpriced computers. They had a computer like mine but with a bad motherboard and a mediocre power supply for 1200 euro when I had mine for half the price. The sad part is that those sell well.

HP?
When you buy it stands for High Price
When you need support is stands for Have Patience
Although a high spec PC will beat the shit out of a console, I would never go back to PC gaming. Because I don't want to spend 100's each year upgrading, I don't want to have to spend an hour resolving driver conflicts before I play...
Call me lazy but I like to just pop in the disc and play, and not worry about minimum specs, driver conflicts, and all that. That reminds me too much of work.

Um dude, I'm not going to argue with the drivers part (although I must be the luckiest guy in the world cause I only have graphics problems with 1 in 20 games, and that is usually a pretty old game) but the whole point of this topic is to say that you don't need an expensive PC anymore. 100s to upgrade EVERY year? Couldn't be further from the truth right now.Wim_Senna wrote:

Re: Computers, money and other stuff
I paid £600 in total for my rig, it's over 2 years old now and still going strong. Haven't needed to upgrade the graphics card yet. I might upgrade when the real next generation of Radeon cards come out (the 6870 is basically a the 5850 with a higher clock) but only if I really need it to get the most out of my games. Currently I don't struggle to run anything other than Crysis. Having to upgrade every year is a myth. If you're having to upgrade every year then you made poor hardware buying choices. Simple as. The key is to look for the best bang for buck stuff that you can overclock to way beyond it's price range. Hence my HD4870 golden sample (overclocked to the maximum the firmware allows and still stable and cool) and Q6600 overclocked to 3.4GHz (recently bumped it to 3.5GHz stable, gotta love this freezing cold weather we're having here right now!). This system will probably last me until the next generation of Intel CPUs at least.ZeroAX wrote:Um dude, I'm not going to argue with the drivers part (although I must be the luckiest guy in the world cause I only have graphics problems with 1 in 20 games, and that is usually a pretty old game) but the whole point of this topic is to say that you don't need an expensive PC anymore. 100s to upgrade EVERY year?
