Re: keeping the snes? roms vs emulation
Another vote in the keep them column. Roms aren't the same. The xbox will die and then you'll have to emulate them on something else anyway. A cart system will be a lot easier to keep running than a disc or HD based system. Don't posit it in an ultimatum way that will start a fight, but is there anything she keeps that takes more space than a SNES and a box of carts? Lots of shoes? Lots of clothes that have been only worn a few times? Make it a point that perhaps you both have collections of things that take a little space, and that's ok.

I agree I would keep the SNES and the games you don't want to regret it later.Inazuma wrote:1. Collect a bunch of games on their original hardware.
2. Discover emulation.
3. Sell off all of your old games.
4. Regret getting rid of your games.
5. Buy back all of your old games from ebay for more money than you got selling them.
I went through this process myself. Save yourself some money and hassle by hanging onto your games. Pack em up in a box and stuff em in the closet at least. Just don't get rid of them or you will regret it.

emwearz beat me to it. If old games make you happy, then why does the wife want you to be unhappy? If you ditch the SNES, next it'll be the atari, then the genesis, and before long you won't have anything to do but chores.

I've got to agree with this post. It seems like every time you acquire a new console, you come here asking for advice and cowering about how your wife wants you to get rid of one of your consoles.Hatta wrote:emwearz beat me to it. Ahhhh, the old wife issue. This is actually a common thing. Thanks Ohh by the way I'm married and the wife is asking me to get rid of one system because I have too much.
Since you are considering selling a system, it's obvious you respect your wife's wishes/desires. Does she also respect yours? Does she make sacrifices in your marriage as well? Is this her decision to get rid of some game stuff, or both of yours? Communication from both people is beyond important, along with agreeing on decisions together. Maybe making a list of reasons to keep something/not to keep something that you both make will help put things in perspective for both of you?
As for emulation, I'd go with the Wii over the X-Box for SNES emulation. The classic controller is great!
Some stuff to think about.

First look at your lovely game collections, then look at your lovely wife. Which do you prefer? Which gives you the most satisfying inner happiness?
Re: keeping the snes? roms vs emulation
I don't see why your wife should be asking you to get rid of one of the consoles there really wont be a notable differnce. If you give in to that she problaby will ask you to get rid of another one later.

didn't she know you collected this shit BEFORE she married you?
Seriously though, it seems like you're really wanting to get rid of them, and the wife thing is just a little bit more incentive (really, I wouldn't have mentioned it, the whole topic's already turning towards being just about that.)
If you want to get rid of them, do so. Sell them here, we'll all take care of them.
