I'm going to recommend Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube again. It's a great segway into the genre, since it is an action RPG, so new players will have no trouble picking it up. It's also a pretty easy RPG. You don't want to start somebody off with a difficult RPG, like Shin Megami Tensei or the first Dragon Quest. Also, ToS has 2-4 player multiplayer, so you can play along and show him the ropes. If you want to read more, I did a review of the game here: http://isitaboutmygamecube.blogspot.com ... honia.html

As with several people said, I'm gong with pokemon. It isn't too difficult and ACTUALLY fun to play  Umm, how about Paper Mario on the N64?

Final Fantasy Chronicles for the Playstation One has Chronno Trigger and Final Fantasy IV, and you can pick it up for less than $20 on ebay.

May be a good deal price-wise but the I always thought that some of the load times took away from the experience...

for Chrono Trigger, maybe, but the Final Fantasy IV port has pretty much nonexistant load times. FF4 is a really really nice port, I prefer it infinitely to the SNES Final Fantasy II

I know far more that actually play it. My cousin plays and I think he's 10 or so now. Absolutely loves it. If you can convince him to play one of them (I'd suggest Red/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen), I bet he'd like it.

Sorry I didn't state my handhelds. I also own 2 Gameboy colors and 4 GBA's. I tried starting him on Pokemon, but he's already stuck on the stereotype that Pokemon is too childish, which is a shame since I own a copy of Red. He loves Paper Mario and likes M+L, but I can't get him to transition from those to more Final Fantasy-type games. I think I might also try to get him into the action RPGs with either Secret of Mana or FF: Crystal Chronicles. But I still can't decide on a true RPG. I loved FFIV and Chrono Trigger, but haven't tried FFVI or any more modern RPGs. (I really want to play through VI, but I have about 60 other games in my gaming queue at the moment. Dang, I need backloggery to give me a hand.) Thank you all for your replies.
