My PCE Duo is also having issues (no sound issues though) with the cd-rom... After playing a game on a CD-R my laser got stuck and the disc would no longer spin. So I opened it up , loosened the bridge construction that carries the laser and moved the laser to the center of the motor spindle (do not force it!!!). Result was that my discs now spin again (so the laser was not broken because of the disc spins the laser can see the disc) but they do not yet play :x

I was thinking about looking for a Duo R or even RX but first I want to get my Duo operational again and I will be very carefull with CD-R's in the future.

installed my new HOP-M3 laser and the CD-ROM works perfect again, no need to fiddle with any pots, it does however make more noise when playing cd-r's then when you play real discs

Wow late update, but good to know it works and is an option for others in future. :)
