Re: swlovinist's room of doom
I pick up imports when I can, but again I try to collect what I can find in person mostly. I did find Blast Wind for the Sega Saturn at a Goodwill last week for a mere $5.

Re: swlovinist's room of doom
I find almost nothing awesome in person. My best finds so far in the wild are Valis III (TG-16CD) at a thrift store for $2 and an NES action set, box and all for $10 at a garage sale.

I saw the thread title and knew we were in for some Digitpress crazy indulgence.

Re: swlovinist's room of doom
i normally don't watch collection videos on youtube because they usually are long and boring. but, after reading all these positive comments i just had to watch. and i must say, the video is awesome! it is short, sweet, and to the point.
i am sure 10-15 years ago you were able to find killer deals on a daily basis. has finding good deals decreased dramatically with the popularity of collecting and people knowing to check ebay for current prices?

Re: swlovinist's room of doom
Thank you everybody for your kind words. Ironically some of my best deals have been within the last three years. For the videogames that I collect, many of the prices have been all over the place. I would say that prices on ebay have gotten much worse, but that the rise of craigslist have countered some of that. Independent game stores have also helped my collection out alot. I live in Washington, which is blessed to have many awesome independent game stores which carry retrogaming goodness. I also have to state that there has been a rise in videogame conventions starting to appear accross the US as well. There are many great conventions that are starting to appear on an annual basis. Years ago it was just the Classic Gaming Expo, now there are many. I am one of the organizers of the Portland Retrogaming Expo(there is a group of us). Videogame conventions have become a wonderful place that can be a mecca reasonable and affordable videogames and homebrew videogame titles. I do have to admit that deals are harder to find, partially due to education and information being more readily available about videogames, value, and rarity. I am okay with that.
