Blockbuster Protective Disc Shield
Re: Blockbuster Protective Disc Shield
Worse then Gamestop labels, disc shield is really on there. Really not worth the risk of accidently peeling away the data track. Best to just live with the ugly label and LEAVE IT ALONE.

Probably worth mentioning that, obviously, it's a LOT safer to try and remove these from DVD based games, since you're not as likely to damage the data layer.

I'm also a past victim of this, not worth the risk

Re: Blockbuster Protective Disc Shield
Anyone ever try to remove the logos (most likely chemically) without peeling away the plastic sheet? If they weren't such an eyesore, they'd sort of be a good thing.

Re: Blockbuster Protective Disc Shield
here are some examples of labels on some of my games.
Persona-has a sticky paper blockbuster label on it and a paper/metal strip under it
Azure Dreams-Has a similar disc shield like the topic here.
Tron Bonne- has a shiny metal label on the center and a sticky paper label on it as well.
In the past i've also tried to remove labels (I started to remove it on the persona disc but decided not to)
like its said here, its best just to leave it alone.

Hard to tell, almost looks like the ink is under the sheet. The offensive bar code definitely is under that saran wrap.flamepanther wrote:Anyone ever try to remove the logos (most likely chemically) without peeling away the plastic sheet? Still doesn't seem to be worth the risk though. Just the peeling the transparency back puts a lot of stress on the disc. Imagine the flexing of all those microscopic pits.AppleQueso wrote:Probably worth mentioning that, obviously, it's a LOT safer to try and remove these from DVD based games, since you're not as likely to damage the data layer.
Just a layer of lacquer and dye on the top of a CD.

DVD is a better, but still can get damaged.

Pic below shows why protective sheet is needed on rentals. Reflective data layer scratched off before the that shield was stuck on. Light shines all the way thru. Crap, discovered this during the earlier photo shoot. I'll have to get a replacement of DC Flogian Bros.

At least you have a pair of strips on there so it's sorta balanced.

Those 2 can be saved as long as one is careful. Soaking the paper label with electrical contact cleaner will help loosen the paper part. Once that's off you can get the sticky off with more CC and paper towels. The shiny rental label in the middle is going to be one of those that's made to leave 'VOID' behind when removed, so it shouldn't be super hard to peel off. Obviously you have to be careful and try to pull it so you're pulling toward the center, but it can be done. Then CC on a paper towel to remove the silver leftovers.

"Stuck" with it, barcode under the plastic, good point somewhat balanced. A PSX game anyways, doesn't spool up like newer faster drives. flojocabron, at least your two barcode discs doesn't have the protective plastic shield. Agree with Hobie, those can be removed if soaked first. An alternate removal tool, you can also use is Liftoff 2.Hobie-wan wrote:At least you have a pair of strips on there so it's sorta balanced.CRTGAMER wrote:*Red Alert*
