I'm really envious of all of you that can get this card.

Not a great fan of Gamestop, but with the Edge discounts, my son and I have come ahead in the used purchase category.
This new card just looks like a shiny replacement with the point incentive. Meh, I'll use it the same way as the older Edge card.

Now where did I see that Red Ring before?
I know its the middle light, but someone screwed up in marketing!

Since it is close to halloween, now that is scary!

Local Gamestop here is supposed to start the new Power Card next month, a free changeover.
Same annual fee as the Edge Card, worth it for buying used games and accessories.

From Kotaku:
"According to the GameStop lackey who passed the information on the program along to us, "The rewards range from coupons for $5-$10 off purchases ranging from 4000 to 8000 points to even free Xbox 360 controllers or Turtle Beach X11 headsets for 40,000 points. Us employees get 4000 points to start off with, enough to purchase a $5 off a used game coupon or PS3 real triggers!"
40,000 points for a free Xbox 360 controller? Why, that's like spending $4000 on new games and getting an Xbox 360 controller for free!"
... Forrest Gump would say, "That's all I have to say about that."

Really, the Edge card wasn't that bad. You got the subscription of Game Informer with it, which I really liked. I pay no attention to reviews usually but it was fun to read and they had a lot of great info and they usually have GREAT cover art, with a lot of neat limited editions (subscribers get one cover art while off the shelf buyers get another). Plus you got the discount on used games, which sometimes their used games aren't bad. Plus when you buy used games there you get a 7 day grace period where you can play it all you want and if you beat it too fast or grow bored you can exchange it for another no questions asked. Theoretically if you were a jerk you could have unlimited free rentals for the price of one game.
Plus the customer service at my local store is top notch. I recently bought the Call of Duty War Collection to play the zombies mode in WaW, but I decided I didn't want it and they allowed me to return it for cash. It was opened, but they had already opened it when I bought it. She didn't even ask any questions about that, she just returned it and I bought Forza 3 and Left 4 Dead 2. AND she did it all with a smile on her face. I was happily surprised.

I got the new edge card with the point system last week. From what the clerk said, you still get the discount on used games and the crappy magazine, but that the points only come from trading in games and buying used games. I could be wrong though.

Click that link, shows the breakdown, points also for registering online. Lot of points needed for any freebie though. Same Edge discount policy on used stuff.Luke wrote:I got the new edge card with the point system last week. Gamestop will swap out the new Power Pro silver card free to match your current paid Edge Card. Still will expire at the same time as your current subscription. A word of caution, be sure all your address info is in the system. The last time I renewed my Edge card, the address somehow got delete and I lost the magazine subscription for a month. Local store couldn't fix their error. Had to battle with the 800 number to get the advertised biased magazine reinstated.
The free non-Pro Power black card will only be good for points. No 10% off on used stuff.
At least the pro version doesn't cost any more, same annual fee renewal.
