Mortal Kombat HD Remake - Coming Soon?
Re: Mortal Kombat HD Remake - Coming Soon?
Oh, boy! I always wanted to see Mortal Kompat I and II on HD remakes (the series sucks from the III and after). And with the latest Mortal Kompat being like the old, good MK the enjoyment is double (I hope it won't be a disappointment like SSFII HD).

It also comes with a playable demo of the new Mortal Kombat (2011) game.
According to retailers, this "kollection" is supposed to come out next month (November). But everyone is still waiting for an official announcement and release date from WB.

I'll probably be buying it. But only when it's 20 bucks or less. I wonder if the music and sound FX will be redone?

Despite being an old thread, this is news to me! Has this been released already? MK I and II are my personal favorites ... so many arcade memories.

Re: Mortal Kombat HD Remake - Coming Soon?
Nope. Still been no official word yet. But I'm starting to think that maybe this game was scrapped as a single release and may somehow be incorporated with the new MK game. Recently MK Co-creator, Ed Boon, posted a Tweet (twitter.com/noobde) on Dec. 7th that read "About to send out a doc on our new ******** ****** mode." And I'm thinking that maybe it's a "Classic Kombat Mode" that will feature these HD remakes. The way I figure it... this new Mortal Kombat reboot due in the Spring is essentially a remake anyway, so I think it would make perfect sense to release them both together in this one package. Especially since these MK remakes weren't announced as a part of the "Collector's Edition" or anything like the MK1 and UMK3 ports were, on the Deception and MK Armageddon "Special Edition" releases last gen.
I might be wrong. But when I saw that Tweet it was the first thing that came to mind (that it might be in the new game). Mainly because Ed Boon has said in an interview (which is available on YouTube) that he "cannot deny the existence of the HD remakes" but declined to commented any further because they "were not supposed to talk about it." Also, the MK Team has said in interviews that there won't be any mini-games like a Konquest Mode, Puzzle Kombat or Motor Kombat this time around because they wanted to focus on the fighting game.
Also, have you seen the new fighting sticks that will be available for this game? They feature the same classic 5-button layout as the older games BUT WITH A SIXTH BUTTON - THE RUN BUTTON (which reportedly also works as a 'Tag button" in the new game)! But again, since it's in the same place as the Run button which many people hated, I think it points towards these MK remake games coming together on the disc (or possibly a second disc?).

Actually most MK fans are in agreement that the Run button was an excellent edition, and many of them really want it back.

really?
I've always been under the impression that the run button was one of the shittier things introduced in MK3.

Similar capabilities, yes. Similar in architecture, no. For a start the PS3 is exclusively OpenGL (or derivative) compared to the DirectX Xenos in the 360 (this is why there are so many 360-Windows ports and vice versa, it's essentially a switch in compiler and then optimisations for the specific platform) and the cell is PPC core not X86 like the Xenon in the 360. It means that code has to be fully ported from one platform to another, Windows/360 interchangeably.finerion wrote:I completely agree. It really does not make a lot of sense for any game to be exclusive to either the PS3 or the 360 since both systems have such similar capabilities that would make porting much easier. The Wii, understandably, is a whole different beast.Assman wrote:I wouldn't bet on it being a PS3 exclusive. It just doesn't make a lick of sense when Sony's console isn't even close to being the dominating force of this generation. I simply can't imagine that there won't be a 360 version, at some point and in some form.
This may very well just be a "timed" exclusive.
The timed exclusives like Assman mentioned seem to be becoming the norm in the industry. So let the PS3 get it first. I will wait for the 360 version with the bugs worked out and additional content.

No, the run button and combos kind of ruined MK for me. MK2 was it's highest point.SplashChick wrote:Actually most MK fans are in agreement that the Run button was an excellent edition, and many of them really want it back.
