Super Nintendo by miles. If I was on a desert island and could only have one system, I'd take the SNES for the sheer genre variety and quality genre examples it provides. There is a lifetime of entertainment in that little box. Next I'd go with either Saturn or PS2.
For all the people lamenting the lack of GameCube -- WHY? Sure, it has its gems, but nowhere near the variety or amount of other systems. Did you start gaming with a GameCube maybe? I just find it really tough to imagine why someone would pick it over all the alternatives.
It was a close race between the SNES and PS2. The PS2's library is legendary as well as the SNES's. But the PS2 just has sooooo many great games that it edge out by a nose for the win.
I would have voted for the Saturn had it been on the list, but I'll go with a similar era console with the PS1.. I'll probably be alone with this, but IMO the best gaming library, so much variety...
Hmmm. I'd have to say from a games only perspective, I think, like with most of you, the Super Nintendo has a perfect balance of variety, amazing sound, polished graphics, refined gameplay and some amazing classic games that, even compared to today's games, are considered the gold standard of their genre.
However, the system that I spend the most time playing, that I get excited about, feel most connected to, am most nostalgic about, has to be the NES. There's something about the graphics, sound, hardware and game cartridges that really draws me to it. So many franchises started out on this system. There are a ton of great games that, even if they don't have the beautiful graphics and sound of their SNES counterparts, have a certain simple, addictive, easy-to-pick-up-but-tough-to-master quality about them that keeps me hooked.
So which system has the best all around games, I'd say the SNES. But which system do I "love"?That's gotta be the good, old Nintendo Entertainment System.
Dreamcast!! Spent so much time on it and it did so much for gaming with its fresh ideas. Was only on the shelves for what, 2 years? Just wish others had one at the time so I could have shared the love! I would have voted N64 second, I still need to pick up a SNES, I feel I have missed out on a plethora of great games, I was a Mega Drive fiend at the time
