The japanese game can be played with simple modding. The PAL version needs a special adapter. The game is so rare that it would be best to emulate it or repro it.

I'd recommend a flash cart over a repro cart or emulation.

I used to have the Germany PAL version, came in a really big box with a Terranigma comic, so awesome. But, being young and stupid once, unfortunately ended up selling all my cool game stuff.

Don't have the time, money or space to build up my collection these days so I take the flash cart route.

Cheapest - emulate the PAL version.
Second cheapest - Learn Japanese and play the Japanese version.

Japan and German carts are easy to find.

Expect a steep premium for English, French, or Spanish.

Easiest way to play?... Computer, Wii, PSP mod and emulators can be had for nearly no money. I'd play it and then buy it if I love it. Otherwise you're spending $60-100.

Yup $60 is more than enough for an American to get a US console, then import the Japanese cart.
Of course that leaves the language issue... :(

Second that. Wii with the Classic Controller is a good way to get the feel of it before paying for flash cart/repro.
