Thanks Ziggy. Here's an update on the current situation. I still have not been able to create a bic driver to take apart the snes, but may have to soon. I tested yoshi's island up through a boss and it worked just fine with my adaptor (all sprites SEEMED normal anyway). Also tested Megaman X2 (also has the expansion chips) with similarly positive results. My only fear now of clipping the tabs is possibly harming the system without any change in the results. I'll provide more updates as things change. Btw, so you know, my adapor is called honeybee. I appreciate all the help on this and apologize if there's been any annoyance by my refusal up until now to clip the tabs haha.

It's really not a big deal at all. It's just two little pieces of plastic that prevent SFC carts from being inserted. How are you gonna harm the system if you break them off? That being said, you really don't even have to open the console up to break them off. Just find some good pliers or snipers that will fit in there. Either that, or screw the Bic pen trick. Just go on eBay and get a security bit, they're like $5 shipped.

As far as results go, it WILL work. The hardware of the SNES and SFC are IDENTICAL. If you break the tabs off, playing Star Ocean on your SNES will be no different then playing it on a SFC.

Seriously, don't worry about opening up the SNES. I didn't my first time and it was fine. Needle nose pliers worked great and it's real easy. Even if you make a slight hole in the cartridge bay from breaking the tab it's not a problem (that happened on my friend's SNES on one of the tabs).

After I got a screw bit adapter (this was back in '96 so they were a bit harder to get then) I wanted to make the tab-breaks nice and smooth that's the only reason I opened it up. That and the fact that I could now (then).

hey everyone! Wanted to give you the latest update! So, I did it. I broke off the tabs and....it works! Star Ocean on the Superfami works on the SNES console. For the record, it also works on the FC twin by doing the same mod to it. Now I just gotta learn more Japanese to undertand the story hehe. Thanks to everyone here for your support and patience. Hopefully it'll help out some others who are as apprehensive as I was. Happy gaming!
