I would say all of the odd atlus games that have come out recently because they are going out of business. These games are unique and will never be the created again. This includes series that normally aren't theirs such as Bomberman, etc

I think Deadly Premonition might become a collector's item. It does seem like this generation is different, like there's less of those titles that you know will be rare.

Actually, after some math I did, considering that the Mayan calendar was based on 365 days (not 365.25 days, aka leap year added), it's actually missing 3 1/2 years. So if it were to happen, it would happen in late June or early July of 2016.

Mark your calendars accordingly, all ye pessimists.

Any game with a small amount of copies available will become rare. I think we should look at games that were pulled from the shelves too early and games from companies that died recently as our best place to start. Obviously special edition games will be rarer but that doesn't necessarily make them very rare.

Just because there are a lot of copies of a game, doesn't make it necessarily worth less money though. As long as a game is good, people will pay a lot of money to play it. I think people as a whole put more emphasis on playing good games rather than just rare games. If a game is rare and actually good, then that is even better but I see a lot more people interested in buying and selling Chrono Trigger and Earthbound as opposed to people wanting to get their hands on Tooth Protectors, for example.
So your copy of New Mario Bros Wii and Red Dead Redemption should at least hold their value in my opinion. (Maybe bad examples but those were the first two great games that I could see from here)

Someone mentioned the Metroid Prime Trilogy in an earlier post and I would have to agree with them. I think this game will probably be worth a good chunk of change in the future since this game had a very short production life, all the games on it are good, and it is in a special package. I picked one up while I was in Hawaii and I was glad to see that there was only English in and on the box, no French or Spanish.

Nothing else really comes to mind but I am sure there will always be "that special version" of certain games. The type of game that has slightly different box art or a typo, an early release version or anything along those lines that people will put a large price tag on.

Actually, Atlus is not going out of business. The had a restructuring of their parent group with Atlus being left untouched...if anything, it allows Atlus to branch out in other IP's and/or genre's.

That being said, Atlus has always thrived on their policy to print enough copies to suit demand, thus when they do finally stop printing them, they are likely to increase in value since they never get the chance to hit the bargain bin. They are always a good bet to hold their value.

But above all else, I doubt that we will see any PS3, 360, and Wii games fetching high premiums as gaming is much more mainstream than it was in the 90's when all those expensive PS1, Saturn, etc. games were released. The internet allows for word of mouth to spread infinitely faster and most of the games that fetch high premiums had "perfect storm" conditions that lead lower their print runs (a la Panzer Dragoon Saga, et. al.).

Given the fragile state of current consoles, finding a functional current gen console in the future will be far rarer than the rarest game ever made. Perhaps we should all be collecting sealed current gen consoles and not games. As far as games being made these days being rare in the future, I don't think there is going to be very very few, maybe like 2 games that might be slightly rare in the future.

Between companies printing these games like crazy, re releasing games in HD and in downloadable form and companies like Game Quest Direct doing reprints as well, rare games are a thing of the past. If anyone is collecting for the next Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga, I have a feeling your setting yourself up for disappointment. Even Atlus has over printed games that were supposed to be a ''very limited run". Anyone remember Devil Summoner 2?

Densha de GO Series on PSP. They're already selling for a premium in Japan.
