To be fair, I would recommend buying a memory cart (make sure you get an official one though). It can save literally loads of games, in fact so many that you'd only probably need to ever buy one. You'd never have to worry about the battery either.
Or you could just get the Action Replay 4 in 1 thing, which most would agree is pretty much an essential for any Saturn owner.

Agreed, though I'm a little against the 4 in 1's as they tend to wreck cart slots.Reprise wrote:To be fair, I would recommend buying a memory cart (make sure you get an official one though). Either way a save cart is essential if you start expanding your Saturn collection as the internal memory is dismal on the machine.

Re: SSaturn Internal Memory , replacing the Battery question
This is good to know. When I got my Saturn, it had no battery. But I noticed if I turned off my system and turned it back on after a few seconds, my save would still be there.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Actually in the Saturn's instruction manual it says you have 15 seconds to replace the battery before all your saves go kaput so just have the new one ready to go in as soon as the old one comes out. Think of it like changing the batteries in a universal remote. Doing it quick will keep all your remote codes or in this case, Saturn game saves.
Also, DO NOT touch the little button next to the save battery if you want to keep your saves as it's the reset button to clear the whole RAM chip inside of the Saturn. It's only there for in the event of corruption or any number of glitches that could possibly occur over time from surges, power spikes or finicky cheapo batteries as they go dead and can sometimes prevent your Saturn from starting.
If your Saturn is working perfectly fine without any memory problems then leave the button alone and simply replace the battery. Remember to use a CR2032 battery from a good company (IE Energizer, Duracell, some other pricey well known brand that will cost you $2-$5 for a battery), it pays not to use generics or cheapos (Rayovac, Dollar Store etc...). These can short out, have extremely small lifetimes of only days and generally play mayhem with your Saturn and wreck your saves.
