Actually, those are different issues in themselves.

Virtua Racing, Sega 32x and master systems converters don't work because a cartridge pin only they used was disconected.

Gargoyles though, exploited a bug in the memory controller who was actually fixed.

And there's another set of incompatible games; the ones without TMSS. TMSS was a security system implemented on the platform after launch. This security measure broke compatibility with some games, including early codemasters ones, Crazy Golf, Budokan and others. The workaround for this was using gamegenie. Gamegenie compatibility though, was broken by the very same thing that rendered 32x and Virtua Racing incompatible.

In know what the TMSS system is, after all I have to sit through it every time I turn the system on. :?

Still though, my point remains and my explanation was intentionally simple for a reason. That being the Genesis 3 is real hardware, and basically was designed not to use any of the at the time pointless add-ons so that it was as affordable as possible for lower income families, or parents looking to get their children a cost effective and kid friendly game console.

Like I said before, what first time Genesis buyer really gave a damn about any of that stuff in 1998/1999? Plus, to be honest none of the early non-TSSS compliant/unlicensed games are really that good, they're more of a footnote in the whole history of the console. Not something I'd have cared to play in '98/'99 or even now.

Still though, I can understand where you're coming from in regards to wanting to use certain features that were never advertised as removed.
