Why don't new games have contests associated with them?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

Pretty much the game is perfect if you win and the other team doesn't hit the ball once.
Thanks, that clarifies a bit. I reckon that's $1,000,000 difficult.

Close, but not quite.

The other team is allowed to hit the ball, so long as the batter does not safely reach a base.

If he hits the ball but is caught out or thrown out at base, its a clean out and still counts towards the perfect game.

In short: Not one player can get on one base. That's the perfect game.

And yes jfrost, its ridiculously hard to do. :D

Consider the earlier statistic aaron posted that its been achieved a measly twenty times in 100+ years, and each team in the league plays over 150 games per season, and you can see why.

The other ways a batter can get on base is via a walk (pitcher throws 4 balls), error, or strikeout/passed ball.

A no hitter is usually a good accomplishment but a perfect game is even more difficult.

Recently Edwin Jackson no-hit his former team (Tampa Bay Rays) but it was a crappy game in my opinion. He walked 7 batters so he was effectively wild.

Without looking it up. Hasn't there already been 6 "perfect" games of baseball this year alone!?

There was that one perfect game some wet eared MLB rookie pitched, but the ump stole it away from him.

the guy who won it was in Game Informer last month. It was funny cuz I guess he wasn't even a big fan of baseball games. He just was like "I think I'll try to win this contest." Pfft.

No. There have been 2. A perfect game is no hits/ no walks.

There have been 3 no hitters in addition to the 2 perfect games for a total of 5 no hitters.

There should have been a 3rd perfect game if not for the blown call. (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... d=10727590)

This is an absolutely astonishing year for pitching in baseball as it is uncommon to see more than one or maybe two no hitters a year, let alone a perfect game. Craziness. I guess that is what happens when the hitters get off the juice?
