who know's what will happen there, but here in utah they want to make a similar law i mean i agree that some people are illegal and they are breaking the law and need to do something about it, but now the problem with this law to me is that now if your hispanic they are going to think all of us are illegal.
it's ok to make law but sometimes it goes to the extreme.

But you're right. I guess the argument over this whole arizona law is that it goes to far in that than should be allowed. Although it never clearly states "cops can pull over every mexican they see" it suggests that the wording of the law basically gives cops that right. Is that the main argument against it? Or are there other things in the law that are questionable?
You know the funny thing about this law is that I thought it was already perfectly legal for cops to demand ID/immigration papers from folks when they have reason to believe they are here illegally.

Let's further posit that the mix of hispanics vs. caucasians in Arizona is 50/50. Now we obviously can't check the identification of everyone in the state; it isn't practical. So if you want to stop as much illegal immigration as possible you should focus your attention on the demographic that makes up the biggest slice of the illegal immigrant pie. That's just good math.
Also, demographic profiling is nothing new. Insurance companies have been doing it for centuries. When properly done it is not a matter of racism or sexism or any of the other isms. It's simply a function of statistics. Of course, if you are focusing on one demographic group to the exclusion of all others you are doing it wrong. It should all be ratio-based backed up by the numbers.

Have they tried something like Drunk Driving stops? Everyone passing through a certain area has to show ID. That seems like a good way to go about it without offending anyone.
