Build your own arcade cabinet
Re: Build your own arcade cabinet
This is something I have wanted to do for a while too but I live in a small apartment currently. I would like to build my own cabinet since I am pretty good when it comes to working with wood. I would like to make one with plywood with a light maple veneer and leave it with the wood look. I think it would look classy that way.
Re: Build your own arcade cabinet
If you are going to attempt this I suggest starting by building and wiring the control panel first. If you can complete that then you are good to go. I believe that was the hardest and most time consuming part of my build..

I have a Marquee in it now, but I have no newer picture of it. Yes I know the monitor is ugly in the cabinet. It is built to hold a wall mounted much large LCD when I purchase it sometime in the future.

This is a project on my list to do once I get my house. My plan is to have a few different cabs; a 6 button two player for fighters, a 4 button four player for all the good beat em ups and then I'll probably try and snag myself a Pump It Up machine (but that's because PIU is awesome).

Re: Build your own arcade cabinet
My perfect arcade would have to be a cab with a bunch of systems integrated, have the cartridge slots and controller plugs, and then arcade controls wired up to a pc set up with MAME.CRTGAMER wrote:Very nice. It seems the perfect "Arcade" would be not a dedicated muti game board setup such as say NEO GEO, but a fast PC or MAC fitted with all the various EMUs a mouse click away. Various USB controllers, Sticks for 2 player or twin stick mode, Trackball, even a couple paddles all attached ready to rock with huge built in flat screen CRT. To me, a dream machine could include EMUs of NEO GEO, MAME, IMPACT, FINAL BURN and the all of the Retro home consoles. Maybe a step further including actual consoles in the matrix.
Only need a spare house to hold all of one's original favorites.
I know, I'm a greedy bastard.

I can't wait to build my cab. Hopefully I'll be able to start by summer.

Seriously, an NES cab would be awesome. I may have to do that next summer.
Or a Dreamcast cab. Soul Calibur anyone?
