So what happens if we don't have a Facebook account? Will it show your real name from your credit card information?

yes. When you make a Blizz account it asks for your name. When I made my first one, because I was going to be using game cards I gave totally fake name/address ect. But then my account was hacked, and in order to retrieve my lost items, they had to lock the account and I had to either give proof of identification or tell them the code in the back of the box. But I had thrown away the box, and of course can't give fake proof of identification so I was screwed.

So a new wow account later I gave my real name, and started using a card to pay for the subscription.

Then let him die and decrease the surplus population.

I just don't understand why people have an expectation of privacy when they go on a public internet forum.

For many WoW players, I suspect it will show their mom's name. :D

A) If that happens I'd prefer it if it happens to you for tragic irony. Not using the word hope so as not to attack you.

B) Is your name written down every time you say something, so it can be used against you in the future? Cause you know that's Big Brother turf (from the book not the stupid reality show).

A) Someone needs to bone up on his Dickens.

B) Again, what's with the paranoia? Hell, if you want me to prove a point I'd be happy to change the line in my sig from the quote to my full name and leave it that way in perpetuity.

Ok, so in that case, Blizzard is technically revealing some of your credit card information then, since your name is attached...I'm assuming they aren't including any kind of "opt out" method either, so members who want to continue playing will be forced to accept that a company is putting up personal information. Hmm...

I wonder if games with single player titles that conduct their multiplayer over Battle.net will allow me to not give up my info if I just play the single player game. Because otherwise I suppose I'll just not be playing Diablo III. I've worked hard to keep Ack my online persona, and I don't use things like Facebook.

A)Sorry can't. It comes with being mature and having a proper upbringing.

B) Another really good example on why this is such a bad idea, employers google search those applying for a job. And believe me video games, and specially wow, aren't exactly something you'd put on your resume. So that might screw you over.

But anyway

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/blizzard-forums-to-require-real-names

Existing posts will remain as they are.

So I'm saved. I'll just never post in the forums again. I hope blizz are happy. At least this isn't such a big deal to me anymore, cause they are asking you if you want to publish your personal information. But it will probably turn the forums into a ghost town or a troll's playground since many of it's best users will probably not post again.

The problem is. You gave them info and they promised (Read: Contract) to keep it private. Now they are releasing it, breaking their promise and contract.
