hmmm no not ripping it off ahah

Never a good idea to rip things off. Desolder the wires and TAKE it off. It's easy. There's videos on youtube that teach you to solder/desolder.

What does deleting cache do?

Are you asking what cache is? Or how clearing it will help?

Give it a shot, it wont do any harm. If it does not work, also try formatting the last three drives (X:,Y:,Z:) the idea is to get rid of any cached data that may be loaded on bootup that could be causing the crash.

I'd do exactly this. And never buy used electronics without either testing it or some written guarantee. Sorry for your misfortune.

if it hangs/loops at the intro screen, i had the same thing. it was an easy fix, but can't remember exactly what i did right now. if you don't have the link, here it is:

scenyx has a wealth of information and is a great resource when it comes to xbox. Hope it's an easy fix for you. cheers

There's a really good "rescue" disc that your modded Xbox can boot to help fix problems like this. My modded Xbox was freezing on the splash screen after installing an emulator. I used this disc to boot to, browsed my hard drive and deleted the emulator. Then the Xbox booted up just like normal.

Yeah I'd try the rescue disk, if it has a modchip installed then chances are it could have a corrupted bios, which will be easily fixes by the rescue disc. It could just be dodgy files on the HDD. You can replace the default.xbe with another dashboard pretty simple. The default.xbe file in the C folder of your drive is what the xbox is trying to load on bootup. The fact that it's getting to the splash screen means that the basic functions of the xbox are still working.

Also: Should be in the Technical Help forum, and please choose a more descriptive title, 'help' 'please help' 'what is this' 'what do I do' etc aren't suitable topic titles. I have fixed this for you but please try and be mindful of this in future. Thank you.

Sounds like missing or corrupt dashboard files. If you can use an AutoInstallerDeluxe disc (or similar), then reinstall the softmod or retail C drive. If that doesn't work or isn't an option, use a PC to perform the hard drive hotswap, boot an XboxHDM disk, and dump a copy of the retail C drive back. Youtube has examples of this. If that doesn't work, the mobo is probably shot.

Whoops I totally read between the lines and thought 360. So yeah $20 is a reasonable deal for an XB. Good luck with it. :)

If you can't figure out what you need to delete to get the thing to boot you can rebuild the hd image from scratch with Xboxhdm. I'd try that after using the rescue disc Ziggy linked and before removing the mod chip.

Removing the mod chip should be a last resort, as the hdd might not be bootable by an unmodded console. If you do need to remove the mod chip, see if you can get into the BIOS first and dump the EEPROM. If you have the EEPROM you can build a working soft modded hd image with xboxhdm. If you don't get the EEPROM before unmodding the console, and the system is unbootable the only way to get it working is to desolder the EEPROM and dump it.

Good luck! That the machine powers up and starts EvoX at all indicates that it's not a hardware problem, in which case you will almost certainly be able to fix it with enough fiddling.
