not trying to be antagonistic or anything, but I could probably say this about any character that's ever been connected to a game with any sort of fanbase.Lord_Santa wrote: my hate isn't towards the character as much as it is towards the fanboyism regarding the same

In all fairness, she became much bigger than Link ever was. Where are the Zelda movies? Or the big celebrity name attached to him(many people easily associate Lara Croft with Angelina Jolie). Frankly, Link doesn't have the same name recognition as Lara Croft outside of gaming. Regardless of whatever biases we may have, she IS bigger than Linknoiseredux wrote:that's just wrong. On another note, we always tend to argue about people's placement in these lists. I decided not to go in with that attitude this time and just enjoyed seeing who actually made it on the list, and like I said prior, I like the write-ups for each entry and I think a few of the choices for this list are surprising and interesting.

The whole rationale for the silent protagonist thing is that it allows you to graft your personality onto the character. So, isn't hating Gordon Freeman kind of like hating yourself?

LOL, never seen it put that wayJ T wrote:The whole rationale for the silent protagonist thing is that it allows you to graft your personality onto the character. So, isn't hating Gordon Freeman kind of like hating yourself?
I have always felt that the problem with Freeman's lack of personality is that the Half Life games create a world you WANT to interact with, but can't. When Alex is talking to Gordon or flirting with him, you WANT to say something back and it always seems strange and awkward how Gordon is just silent and stoic always. You wonder how a girl like Alex could be attracted to that and how no one finds it odd how Gordon NEVER answers anyone or communicates in any way.
The whole graft your personality onto a character thing works better with Bioware games, though they are another genre than the Half Life series I suppose, though Mass Effect 2 calls that into question somewhat
On a side note, anyone dig the 100 movies of World Cinema list. I know we have movie buffs here too. I learned a lot that I didn't know from that list, found some movies I want to check out

Same here, though I've seen almost all of the East Asian films they had in the list. There were a few titles I'm surprised ended up so high on the list, and quite a few that I wasn't surprised about at all, though I am upset that one of my favorite films about the French Resistance didn't make it. Army of Shadows is an amazing film, especially if you enjoy a healthy dose of paranoia in your movies.Gamerforlife wrote:On a side note, anyone dig the 100 movies of World Cinema list. Indeed. Not being a crazy film buff I was happy how many films I have seen and really like were on the list. I was a bit surprised Memento wasn't on there anywhere though.Ack wrote:Same here, though I've seen almost all of the East Asian films they had in the list. As for the game character list? Eh, I guess I've read too many of those to really say anything anymore.
