I second that idea.

I voted for Platformers and Adventure (or I would like Action/Adventure), since this is a retro site and these two categories seem be more retro related.
This, very much this.

My votes:

Action - I hope this means exploring type games along the lines of ICO, Last guardian, Tomb Raider Anniversary and even God of War. Anything where one would marvel at all the scenery discovered while exploring. There is already an RPG section, but I don't think that is the same.
Agree with SpaceBooger, a Genre called Action Adventure?

FPS - Yes there are a ton of them with many copy cats. Also a lot of unique ones including Halo, Tribes, Black, Half Life, Quake, and even obscure ones like Acid Arena. More the reason it needs a category.

To racketboy:

What of the my Home Page idea of including the "Newest 10 Replies of Old Threads"?
Front page exposure might help cut down "We already have a thread for that."

I voted racing and puzzle

why not add them all? and even split them: puzzle, rhythm.
perhaps make sub forums so that the main board index does not get too big!

Isn't rhythm just a really fast puzzle game?

Why not just put action and adventure together and simply label it "action/adventure?"

..and couldn't most platformers fall into this category? I mean, they're still considered adventure games aren't they (Zelda anyone)?

I dunno.. I just think the "Platformers" title seems a little vague. To me, it doesn't clearly express what the game is all about. Jumping from "platform to platform" just doesn't cut it for me

When I hear platformer, I know what it is. When I hear adventure, I know what it is. When I hear action... I don't know what it is.

I think of Zelda (all but 2) action/adventure games, some say action RPG, but I don't think of Zelda as a Platformer.
The platform game (or platformer) is a video game genre characterized by jumping to and from suspended platforms or over obstacles (jumping puzzles). It must be possible to control these jumps and to fall from platforms or miss jumps. The most common unifying element to these games is a jump button; other jump mechanics include swinging from extendable arms, as in Ristar or Bionic Commando, or bouncing from springboards or trampolines, as in Alpha Waves. These mechanics, even in the context of other genres, are commonly called "platforming," a verbification of the term "platform." Games where jumping is automated completely, such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, fall outside of the genre.

I don't know if I really like breaking the forums down by genre, personally. But I do think that MS and Sony deserve seperate forums. Not that I'd hang out in either...

THIS. A lot more threads here compared to genres area. At least a separate computer gaming section.
