I've found that playing with a wheel takes a lot of getting used to. Haha. I'm much better playing this on my SP. In fact, I'm better on the SP than on my GBPlayer with my Hori Pad even.

I am going to try and play a few versions of Outrun and a few of the games in the series this month. I have the SMS version of the original, Outrun 2019 for the Genesis, Coast 2 Coast on Steam, and I just realized I can buy Outrun Arcade for the 360 (I only had a PS3 when it was released) so I'll probably grab that as it was something I wanted for the PS3 but was not available in NA.

I'm surprised this game hasn't been included on any of those Sega collections. They should come out with a disc-based racing compilation of all their classic racers for current-gen consoles.

The post above reminds me - I should add the Outrun remake from the Classics collection to my playlist for the month.

Ok, so I played a bit of Outrun for the SMS just now - and I can't quite make it to Stage 4 after about a dozen tries. I usually get to the absolute very end of Stage 3, but come up just short of the checkpoint. Clearly this version of the game wants an error free run to make it to the end, and so far I haven't been able to pull one off. Even if I don't crash into cheap pop-up out of nowhere boulders, I end up falling off the road and slowing down and then accelerating in the wrong gear...the Desert is usually where I die!

I'd like to blame it on the limitations of the hardware (even though Outrun is a Two-Mega cart!), but I know that I'm up to the challenge of getting through it in the near future (perhaps after a few morning coffees!).

For the sake of memorization I have a tendency to want to go left, left, left, left, etc. Perhaps some routes are easier than others?

Also, everyone should check out the excellent write-up on the series over at HG101: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/outrun/outrun.htm

What are you taling about? It looks great and plays great too. It´s not as refined as the original or part2, but I will say it here and now. Outrun fans should not overlook this one. It could have been greater, but it´s still pretty great actually. All should buy the sega classics collection. Owning a Japaneser PS3 which can´t play euro or us ps2 games, I´m very jealous of those that can play this disc! grrrrrrrrr. It never came out in Japan, sucks!
