Upcoming Deus Ex is being Co-developed with Squareenix staff

I sure as hell did not care what happened with Zack before FF7
This is something I never even really thought about... Seems like prequels have an even lower success rate than sequels do! The only prequel I can think of that I think is genuinely good, if not better than the original is Metal Gear Solid 3, largely because it explored the past of a character that the main series never really elaborated on and used the backdrop to tell a strong, stand-alone story.

As long as Adam Jensen doesn't make me think of the closet I'm fine with it  I don't mind 'streamlined' game experiences. Being dumbed-down is a given and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.. But if it has enough fresh elements and a decent storyline (very important) it should make for a fun experience.

There's not nearly enough cyberpunk stuff nowadays, even scifi has been marginalised too much.

Lufia 2 must disagree. It was the best game in the Lufia series and was a prequel to the original Lufia & The Fortress of Doom. Heck, if you've played the first game you even know EXACTLY how it ends, as you play the end of Lufia 2 at the beginning of Lufia.

in both cases true, but I believe that is because, there was already a backdrop, from the first game, for the sequel to fall too. In Lufia 1 you keep hearing about Maxim, and in MGS you keep hearing about Snake's past. In Deux Ex the big events are now. Likewise in FF7. You just saved the world from destruction by a huge meteor and wandering god created monsters. How can anything top that?

Well, really, how can anything top Deus Ex anyway?

Maybe his future is so bright?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
