What if the Dreamcast had been backwards-compatible with Saturn games and able to play burned copies of import games like Radiant Silvergun?

Dreamcast games...what if

I keep adding stuff and now pics, reason for a re-bump Edit.

Had to say it. What if XBox hadn't robbed Dreamcast of U.S. Shenmue 2.
At least PAL subtitled import sounds better with Japanese voices.

What if Dreamcast REZ saw a U.S. release.
Again like Shenmue 2, Not just PAL and Japan.
PS2, XBox 360 robbed U.S. release Dreamcast this time.

What if Half Life came out. The guide book did, officially the game did not

What if 9-11 panicked Sega released Propellar Arena.

What if Activision Virtua On had a decent controller layout, so I can mod a digital twin stick.
At least had an official U.S. release of Twin Stick.

What if Panzer Dragoon and Nights into Dreams got a DC release.
It got a bloody PS2 Japanese import only.
Dream is in this non Dreamcast title.

What if Dreamcast was DVD compatible you idiots at Sega!
Not that I would use it as such, but would've helped sales.

What if Dreamcast last commercial new game is yet another SHUMP.

But I still love my 3 Dreamcasts. :D
And I can't afford a Neo Geo. And I love Toy Commander, Aero Dancing, Flogian Brothers, Alien Front, Seaman etc.

It might have been cool with the keyboard and mouse. But I can't imagine trying to play that game with only one analog stick on the DC controller. The control setup probably would have been similar to Outtrigger. What a nightmare!

It was released for the mac. It was basically a port of the PC version.

Game I would have liked to have seen on the Dreamcast:

Sonic Heroes [One of the last good 3D Sonic games]
Panzer Dragoon Orta
NiGHTS into Dreams remake
Halo
Half-Life
Half-Life 2 [Come on, I can dream, can't I?]
Gun Valkyrie
Shenmue 2 [US release]
Propeller Arena

Accessories I would have liked to have seen on the Dreamcast:

DVD Player Add-On
Zip Drive
Hard Drive
VMU MP3 Player [This would have been awesome, and if Sega would have made a PC linker, as well, they could have gotten a jump start on the iPod's market!]

Everything above would've been amazing, especially the DVD Player and MP3 Player.

If I may add to that, I'd like the add - VMU's with DLC, a more widely spread Broadband adapter, a Saturn Player, a Sega CD player, and a Shenmue 3 (NOW who's the dreamer?)
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

I really do wonder how well the dreamcast would've ultimately fared against the far more powerful gamecube and ps2.

Certainly, I would've expected to see a new dual analog controller made for it at the very least.

Well, as far as "what-if?"s that could have easily happened on the Dreamcast had it been around for a year longer, you've got Virtua Fighter 4, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Half-Life, and even Thunder Force VI amongst others (loads of localizations and PC ports in particular). I wish Sega had been a bit quicker to release the motion-controller they had planned for Super Monkey Ball, GunValkyrie, and Air NiGHTS -- I doubt it would have been as big of a deal as the Wii, but it might have been the push they needed to secure a few more years of independence. Also, the fancy VMU MP3-Player with all sorts of updates would have realized the VMU's potential (more memory, battery-life, better graphics and sound) and possibly changed the industry in ways we still haven't seen.

The Dreamcast is the ultimate "what-if?" system because it gave us just enough to indicate that it COULD DO NO WRONG and left us with a hundred unfulfilled promises along with the few awesome ones it did muster the time and money to deliver on.
