@yomamma that link is one of the oens i found that is really no good. Im not gonna pay 30 bucks ofr a video on how to do this =P

hmm tnx hobie and niode. I kept looking and see a few washer tutorials but they seem different. Some just say nuts and a nylon washer, i saw a few others mention some kinda spring washer or something (not even sure what that is)

but it recomends actually drilling out the holes for them to be bigger.. im not too sure about that. It also just has a regular metal washer setup and not a spring or whatever washer.

I saw your link niode and i dont think i want to mess with the flux thing. I dont have a heat gun and that could get messy/screw up my board since ive never done that before. Do you remember what kinda screws they were you used? did you have to drill anything out?

It sounds like just swaping out the clamps nuts is probably my best bet? I dont really get what putting some new bolts and washers on it will do, but it seems to work i guess. I'm just not sure what kinda screws/washers to go with since i see different ones out there. Taking them into the hardware store sounds good like hobie-wan sugests but isn't the point to get longer/bigger ones in there to hold it better or something?

any ideas? a good guide would be awesome. I can find a disasembly one on youtube, but im really not clear on this whole xclamp thing since i see different methods out there. I really gotta narrow down what kinda screws/washers i should be using

Just get a rrod repair kit off ebay. You shouldn't need to drill holes, just get smaller screws. Anybody saying you need to drill bigger holes is an absolute retard. My kit included the exact right screws that went right into the heatsinks with no modification. The kit should come with screws, 16 nylon washers and 16 spring washers (to keep tension) and some arctic silver 5. That cost me £2.99. Not bad considering it saved me to time of buying the heatsink paste separately and hunting around for the exact right screws.

The screws you need will be M5-.80x10 Machine Screws. The metal washers are just 5mm washers. The recommended nylon washers (if you use them) are #10 Flat Washers.

All these things can be found pretty easily at your local hardware box store (home depot/lowes/etc.)

Once you get in there, you'll see the x-clamp design and will be able to better understand why replacing them with screws and washers can work.

does that seem like the proper way to do it? I know its for the ps3, but im asuming i just do the same thing tot he xbox gpu/cpu

anyway as far as the screws/washers i need.. i looked at ebay but cant seem to find the spring washer kit. the closest thing i see is somethign like this

I wouldn't worry about spring washers. The nylon ones are for using against the board so you don't scrape it up, then the metal ones for spacing the rest of the gap against the heatsinks.

The screws that my friend used on another 360 had tall heads on them so he had to drill holes in the metal shield so theydidn't hit it and bend the board. That's why I mentioned making sure you got shallow pan head screws.

Yeah, that's correct. I have the actual part numbers for Lowes, and I think with a google search you can find the home depot equivalents.
