I hope it gets done, Ancel is one of my personal favorite designers and I often cite Jade as being one of the best examples of a female protaganist in gaming. I get so tired of people always dropping names like Samus or Lara Croft when discussing strong women in video games. Both of those women are so cliche, Jade felt like a real human being. Not a stereotype or something from a marketing department

I also feel that Beyond Good and Evil and Okami have managed to upstage Nintendo when it comes to doing the Zelda formula

I heard the PS2 version has some glitchy moments.

Yeah, I've had a lot of sound bugs that make the game more or less unplayable when they pop up. A sound effect will sometimes end up playing on an infinite loop, which is VERY annoying.

I have the PS2 and PC versions. I've never experienced the problems you are talking about on the PS2. My PC version had some weird graphics issues, but a few changes in the options menu fixed those up. I think the PC looks a bit better than the PS2 because it is higher resolution.

In case you didn't know, the PC version is always $10 through GOG:

Supposedly, the GC was the lead development platform. Not sure though, but it certainly FEELS like a Gamecube title, being so obviously Zelda inspired

This is one of my all time favorite gaming moments. This is how you do cinematic gameplay properly

Truly awesome. I don't know why more games don't do this sort of thing. One of the advantages that videogames have over film is that you can place the camera wherever you want it. If you have a fairly linear path for the character to follow you can have the environment or character actions trigger closeups, slow motion sequences, split screens, etc. This clip is a great example of how to do that. Of course the classic action movie scene of running towards the camera and away from the exploding building in slow motion has been done a thousand times, so it is a little cliche, but being able to actually experience that in-game while controlling your character like is done in this clip of BG&E is just spectacular and it makes you wonder why nobody else does stuff like this.

You're right, it seems simple enough and I find that there are very few games I can think of that I've played that can deliver a good chase sequence.

The part at the end is excellent too, when she jumps and misses his hand and the look you see on her face as she is sliding down the wall, just before he gets the last minute save. It's poignant moments like that that made me love this game.

This game does so many things right, it should be required playing for anyone looking for a job in game development, especially in this day and age when sloppy design is becoming the accepted norm.

Isn't it a bit cheeky to demand a sequel for this? Which brings me to the next question: why did it fail? Insufficient marketing, the lack of sexist protagonist design, something else?

It failed because it was released around the same time as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and the geniuses at Ubi put all the marketing effort towards PoP. Then they got mad when it didn't sell and within weeks it was in the bargain bin.
