Stick with a normal motorized platter HDD and even if the drive breaks or has the motor wear out the platter inside can be removed by a service company and have all of it's data recovered. SSD's are for people who don't plan on actually keeping important or large amounts of data on their comps. When you've got files that are almost 11 years old on your comp like me having an HDD that won't nuke itself randomly is important.
Also always go WD, their HDD's run cool and I've never had one break down. Seagate and Samsung have also been good to me too, but WD's have always been my real workhorses that took every kind of punishment and abuse yet kept right on working.
