Anyone replace their DS Lite case from one from China? I'm not thrilled at the idea and can only imagine the build quality can only be worse.
I need to replace my R button myself. If you find a nice video of the operation let me know. I ordered replacement stuff from DX myself (so yes, made in China).
lol, my L button is going on mine, I guess the DS Lite is just a fragile system all around.
Id say deal with it for a few months, and buy a 3ds.

Do we know yet when the 3DS is coming out?
Oh, and an update: My girl friend got it fixed by Nintendo. They wanted $75 but she pulled the ol 'I spend crazy money with your company, satisfy me or get me someone who will' routine. Her DS was registered to our joint club nintendo account that has nearly $1000 dollars of games and VC titles connected to it. I guess they weighed their options.
They only charged her $35. Persistence pays off, no?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
It was a factory defect for sure. My fist DS Lite was a white one and it developed a crack on the left hinge one day just out of the blue. I never dropped it or anything. It was safely stored in a drawer when not in use.
Eventually I bought a black DS Lite and this one doesn't have the hinge crack problem.
I have owned three DS Lites. A white one purchased on launch day, a black one purchased a few months later, and a red/black one. The white and the red/black suddenly developed the crack seemingly overnight. Never dropped, never abused, all remained in like new condition until this crack suddenly appeared.
Speaking with a Nintendo rep on two occasions, I would be told the same excuse, that the crack only appears when dropped or abused. Any attempt to explain circumstances would not be believed. It's like talking to a brick wall really. Warranty service refused.
Ended up liquidating all my hardware after discovering the DS emulator. Definitely don't have to deal with hinges there.

Bullshit 3DS is the most durable system ever.

I had this happen to the Triforce edition of my DS lite. I had to get rid of it because of how anal I am about it, and I got a DSi. The screen wobbled like crazy. I bought it used with a small crack in it, and over time it got worse each time I would open it.
However the guy at the Gamestop I bought it from told me its a very common problem with the DS. Some of the Gamestops in my area wont take them if they are cracked, but the one location I went to the guy offered to fix it for me. So you could try a Gamestop and see if they can fix it. If not, Id do as posted above and sell it and get a new one.
