Re: Shin Megami Tensei
Only one I've played is Devil Survivor, and the grind wall discouraged me from continuing. Beldr fucking ate me for breakfast, shit me out, and fed that to his servants.

Me too! And my friend had the same problem, and practically everyone I know. Fuck Beldr.

I don't mind it at all though, your constantly changing party of demons makes you constantly adapt your strategy making the constant stream of battles much more interesting.
I am getting close to the end I think. Nocturne went over really well here, I think my GF liked watching me play it even more than I liked playing it. I may want to play another SMT game on the PS2 when we're done, since I liked it so much. That would either be the Persona series or Digital Devil Saga. Any recommendations?
I'm at about the same point. Maybe more or less? I quit when I had to fight three witch characters in a tower. I love that game so much. It's so intense at times. I love that about it. I love the random battles, I love the storyline, and I especially love the monsters. Great game is GREAT.
I'm playing through Persona 4 right now, and I finished Persona 3. I have Devil Summoner about half finished, and a couple hours into Digital Devil Saga.
I have Digital Devil Saga 2 in plastic and Devil Summoner 2 sitting there with the plush doll looking at me.
oh and I have the two DS games, Strange Journey and Devil Survivor. I found the teens of Survivor off putting, and quit. Strange Journey I quit because I play to many games, but I will try to finish it. I'm in the third section that starts with a C.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei
I really like the games and what it deals with but I really hate those confusing dungeons with switches and pitfalls.

Thanks everyone...

If you haven't seen it yet, Hardcore Gaming 101 has a great article on Shin Megami Tensei:

That article links to an English translation of the Megami Tensei novel that this series draws its inspiration from:

Even if I go to hell, I will live to the end of this world. And if the world does not come to an end... I will destroy it with my own hands!
Re: Shin Megami Tensei
Resurrecting this thread because I've recently been getting into the Shin Megami Tensei series.
I picked up Persona 3 FES new for $15 at Gamestop like a year ago but have only played about 5 hours of it. I really want to finish it, but I think I'll do that with the PSP version.
Right now I'm nearly halfway through SMT: Devil Summoner on PS2. Between sessions of that I'm playing SMT: Strange Journey on DS. Devil Summoner is great, but Strange Journey is fantastic. I'm like 11 or 12 hours into that and the story is pretty great. It's got that classic SMT creepiness and really feels like the old Famicom/Super Famicom entries in the series.
I played a bit of Shin Megami Tensei 1 on Super Famicom with a translation patch. It's very intriguing but I've never played a long game on an emulator. It's always difficult for me. Maybe if I pick up an R4 cart soon I'll play it on DS. I've been meaning to get one of those specifically for oldschool RPGs.

I'm gonna hang onto it for my collection and in case I ever do wanna play the whole FES version.
That does remind me that I should make a trade thread though.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei
I love Persona 4, its one of my all time favourites, its not often a story in a game can grab my attention the way P4 does. I love the sim aspects too, having to get a job to build up your skills is fun.
