While the Genesis has to be one of my least favorite consoles of all time... and I don't actually own one anymore... I do still have a couple games... and the hang tabs are evil... I'm not sure if the games I own have the tags still or not, but I do remember cutting some off in the past... If I was to start collecting Genesis games again... I would totally CUT THEM OFF!!!

This is absolutely true. Assman, you've made a perfect metaphor. Cutting off the tabs is just like circumcision: it may look nicer afterward, but that's not what the creator intended. It's just plain evil.Assman wrote:Yeah dude, you gotta keep the tabs. I didn't even think that was debatable. You're circumcising a piece of video game history.

It all started before I had proper shelves to display them. Stacking with tabs is impossible. That is when the cutting began. It started slow, a tab here and there to make them fit better. The next thing I knew I had them all slashed. Tabs were all over the place and I was looking for more to lacerate!

I guess all I can say is I am tabless and proud?

I don't cut them off, but I really don't care if I get a Genesis game that has them missing either. To me, tabs are generic, therefore I don't care about them. I care about what's unique to the game, which would be boxart, label art and the instruction manual. The tabs are completely non special, generic little things that came with every game so I don't care about them. It's the same reason I don't care about the various inserts that came with all of those older cartridge games like registration cards, Nintendo power ads, etc. EVERY game had them, so they're not special and therefore I don't care if I get them or not. Box, instructions and cartridge label are all I care about

When I was growing up and buying Megadrive games, I absolutely hated the tabs and so would always cut themn off.
Now I REALLY regret doing that. Now that I'm older, more of a collector than a player (don't get me wrong, I love playing, but you know, adult responsibilities and all that), and have a gained a slighlty OCD trait to collecting games, I just find myself seeing it as damage to the box. It's hard to explain, but it just feels less complete to me.
I will buy games with the tabs cut off, but if I had a choice between the two, I'd want one that isn't cut.
