Should I buy an import to save money?

I figured this was the real reason.
I think you should go for it over the U.S. version. $40 is nothing to sneeze at, especially in terms of gameboy games.

On my current want list for GB/C/A games, there's only 4 that VGPC puts at over $20 I can actually find a price for (they don't really cover imports sadly). Most Gameboy games are pretty cheap until you get into stuff like Castlevania Adventure and Shantae.Limewater wrote:noiseredux wrote:I'm scared I'll get sniped while mulling it overgtmtnbiker wrote:

Re: Should I buy an import to save money?
i say "no" on this one. it is only a 40 dollar difference. i am not saying 40 isn't a lot of money, but it could be worse. it's not like the US version is $1,000 and and the jap version is $30.
do you work? couldn't you put away 10, 15, or 20 dollars per pay check to make up for the difference? you're taking the easy way out. get the US version!

I do work. But I also have bills to pay, and a future to save for.final fight cd wrote:i say "no" on this one. it is only a 40 dollar difference. i am not saying 40 isn't a lot of money, but it could be worse. it's not like the US version is $1,000 and and the jap version is $30.

Besides, I wasn't asking WHICH version should I buy. I already said I wouldn't spend $70 on a game. I was saying "should I buy the import version for $30, or HOPE that one day I find this rare game at a garage sale for $1?"

If it a niche title then buy it. If you come across the US version pick it up on the cheap and sell the other?I do work. But I also have bills to pay, and a future to save for.

Re: Should I buy an import to save money?
I think that's the conclusion I've come to actually. If really my main concern is playing the damn game, then there's no reason to not buy this one to play for a fair price. And then shoudl I ever get super lucky and find a cheap US one then I'd just sell or trade the import.c0r33 wrote:

Re: Should I buy an import to save money?
I did the same thing to get Sonic Chaos for sega master system. US versions would pop up from time to time on ebay for around $30-$40. I ended up getting one from the UK for $20 including shipping. My understanding is that the only difference between the versions is the barcode on the box.
Re: Should I buy an import to save money?
Never imported a game to save money. Though, I have imported just about every version of tetris.
