I've been installing games ot the hard drive just to play them for 20 years now. Hard drives are faster than optical media; I love installing stuff.Weekend_Warrior wrote:First, they force people to install many of their games to the hard drive just to play the game.

Agreed. Even if its only optional to install a game I still do.MrPopo wrote:I've been installing games ot the hard drive just to play them for 20 years now. Also a question to everyone refusing to update: When and if Geohots firmware comes out, will you actually be installing linux? Or is this just some way for you to stick it to sony, who will probably quickly release another update and therefore start the process all over again.
Just doesn't seem all that worth it to me personally.

I know Niode actually uses his Linux partition for emulators. But others are doing it on "moral" grounds.miked wrote:Agreed. Actually, most games don't load any faster when they're installed. They've proven this on both the PS3 and Xbox 360MrPopo wrote:I've been installing games ot the hard drive just to play them for 20 years now. Haha, I have no idea what possessed me to say Mac. I sure am retarded sometimes.Niode wrote:Regarding the DNS spoof (it's not a mac address spoof, that would do nothing) it doesn't work anymore. They've made PSN check the firmware version of the PS3 now rather than how it worked before (where the PS3 checked PSN what the latest version is). It's a two way thing now and if you don't match the latest firmware you can't get on.

Well, this is bad news for all those refusing to update [like myself], as it means GeoHot's new CFW is now useless, unless he comes up with a 3.30 CFW.
Re: For those who never updated their FAT ps3
Yep, I'm pissed off. My PS3 is just a glorified DVR now...

I don't really game online much with my PS3, I don't often use PSN, and most of the updates are just pure shit. (Ooh, you can arrange your trophies, ooh, you can organize your images, WOW, you still can't organize your games by name!)miked wrote: Also a question to everyone refusing to update: When and if Geohots firmware comes out, will you actually be installing linux? This is more of the same for me. Sometimes, I go for months without updating. Though, for the past few months, I've been contemplating selling my PS3 (I have the 60GB version) and getting a slim. I think having the hacked firmware would get a slightly higher price.
I immediately thought of this:MrHealthy wrote:Haha, I have no idea what possessed me to say Mac. Update really is just a down date to cripple other OS, only way to stay on PSN.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Jeez. Other than releasing the PS3 Slim a bit early, has there really been ANYTHING that Sony has done right this gen?
First, they force people to install many of their games to the hard drive just to play the game. Now they're forcing people to constantly update just so that they can use PSN? Unbelievable
All purchased downloads, you should consider a "Rental" since it can't be backed up.
Slim is another screw up, lost a lotta features including option of installing Linux.
On the plus Slim is less error prone compared to Fat YLOD.
