Just listened to all of "Full Clip". Great double.

Now, I'm more into Tribe and 90's rap that was more story-telling based, but Guru could rap his ass off. We're talking about an average of 4 minutes of rapping, and 20 seconds of a hook (if even that). See what I did there?

Anywho, their 5 minute songs weren't 1 minute of rapping, 2 minutes of intro/exit, and 2 minutes of hook (I'm looking at you cashmoney records).

Biggie always came off to me as sing-song rap, but still enjoyed at least half of his work. Tupac, who I swear I saw in my local Target cafe eating a hot dog, topped only with ketchup (gross), never seemed to change his style. Still, like them both.

Loved Wu-Tang too, although they obviously just didn't know what the hell to do with success. Some great solo albums in the early years, but I haven't been a "financial supporter" to their music for about a decade.

I still enjoy new and old Beasties, Run DMC, LL, Gang Starr, Tribe, Leaders of TNewS, etc., and even Heavy D.

I'm not a fan of eminem, but it seems he is one of the very few commercial rappers who can actually rhyme.

Damn, I knew he was sick but didn't realize he had died. That sucks, man.

I don't know much of their music, but "Above the Clouds" is an amazing song.

No. Group Home is made up of rappers Lil' Dap and Melachi the Nutcracker. They were originally members of Gang starr Foundation and were both featured on a few Gang Starr albums from early 90s.

Also their whole first album and one track off their second were produced by DJ Premier, so that may be another reason you mixed them up.

Guru has always been in my Top 3 list of lyricists. He won't ever be matched, and he always stood out on his own.

A friend of mine recently compiled a very nice Gangstarr 'retrospective' mix. It's a great introduction for new listeners, and for longtime fans, it's a great way to reminisce.

Hell yes I'm down with Gang Starr. Guru was the sure shot. Been listening to the catalog lately and there is just so much good content. Great rhymes, beats by DJ Premere, hard to beat.

Been listening to Little Brother lately too. Cop the Minstrel Show immediately if you want a primer!

Little Brother's first two albums are definitely hot! I'm a fan of 9th Wonder's production, though it does get a little repetitive after a while.

I just picked up The Chitlin Circuit 2.0, but I haven't even taken off the shrink wrap yet.

I haven't looked for one, so forgive me if this thread exists: Could we set up a thread with favorite albums and perhaps some download links.

I'm actually in the process of re-ripping all of my Gangstarr albums, DJ Premier instrumentals and Jazzmatazz (Volume 3, at least). Here's what I have listed

No More Mr. Nice Guy
Step Into the Arena (plus instrumentals)
Daily Operation (plus instrumentals)
Hard to Earn (plus instrumentals)
Moment of Truth
The Ownerz (plus instrumentals)
DJ Premier - Instrumentals Volumes 1-8 (Eight discs)
Guru - Jazzmatazz Volume 3

I will likely make one compressed file with all of these albums.

Since I'm afraid to start a new thread at this point (I've had two merged/contested so far..) I wanted to point out a hip-hop group that I recommend to those who like the "backpack" rapper scene. Emanon: http://www.myspace.com/emanonmusic

They are a duo (MC:Aloe Blacc, DJ:Exile) now doing their own thing, but together they made a pretty good couple songs. Yes, Aloe is a "Singin' a$$ rapper", but overall the tone is melodic and worth a listen. "Runaway" is a good starting place on their only LP, "The Waiting Room". Which is actually the only <strike>single</strike> hit from DC punk band Fugazi. Go figure.
