Splinter Cell: Conviction
Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
I've not heard anyone comparing this to Uncharted.. And keep in mind it's only a five hour game.

Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
the game is awesome. granted, i'm a semi long time fan of the series... i started with Chaos Theory (still awesome) and played both versions of Double Agent (both good, but different in some ways). Conviction is sick. It's kind of short, yes, but if you like stealth games, you know there's more than one way to skin a bad guy. With the vigilant AI and the absolute slickness of this Sam Fisher, the mark system, the weapons and challenges... there's replay value for a single player if you want it. Then we have the Deniable Ops where you play as one or the other of the 2 agents from the Co-Op, i've only played the hunter mode (i think it's called that) which is basically a stealth/shootout challenge situation that can be very fun. There's multiple maps for that mode. Though one slight let down, is some of the areas from the Deniable Ops mode look a lot like some areas I've seen in footage of the Co-Op, and Ubi sed (pre release) the Co-Op had unique scenarios. Whatever, I'm still stoked to get my hands on the coop, after my cousin (most of my friends don't play games like I do) get's his hands on it and earns some stripes. I don't wanna play it with someone who isn't also sick at it (though I'm not yet "sick" at it.) Anywho, without rambling too much... if you liked the other Splinter Cells or are just looking for a slick current gen action/stealth game, Conviction is great. Oh yeah, to answer your question, it's not really "choice" oriented like double agent but the story is good stuff. Rife with espionage twists and whatnot.

Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
Chart of the SC series:
Splinter Cell: Great start, but feels a bit outdated now
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow: Before DA, it was the black sheep of the series. It's fun, but can be very frustrating. It was the first SC game to have online multiplayer.
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory: The high point of the series. Part of the reason newer games in the series don't get as much praise as they used to: they just don't surpass this game.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent: On Xbox/PS2, it was almost as good as CT. It had pretty much the same style of gameplay and the same graphics/physics engine. On 360/PC/PS3, it's a different story. The stealth was simplified, too much of the game takes place in broad daylight, and the JBA headquarters missions are plain awful. 25 minutes of walking around slowly, hoping that the patrolling characters are far away from you.
Splinter Cell: Conviction: Better than DA, but still doesn't surpass CT. Far shorter than the previous games. The gameplay has been largely redone, which can be a downside if you like the other games, and wanted a sequel that didn't change much. The new gameplay is still simpler than CT; it's more in the style of DA than the older games.
Basically, CT>All others.
And that's why Conviction will not be remembered as a great game. The series is simplifying things too much. I want the complexity of CT/Current gen DA back, and I think that's what most fans want. I don't feel that the 3 year wait was worth it.
At least the SC series is faring better than the Rayman series.

Conviction doesn't offer the option to be a "humanist". Sure, Fisher is out to venge his daughter but there's no say for the player this time around.

Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
yeah. that's one thing i agree with, killing everyone is a little over the top. but in it's defense, he's not "on the job anymore"... he's out for blood... but on the other side of the coin, he shouldn't have to waste every last henchman to get the blood he's after. I think what should happen is Splinter Cell after Conviction should no longer be about Sam Fisher. New agent entirely, return to form with the black ops and spy games, keep the sweet cover system (conviction's cover system is way sweet), gadgets, cameras, silencers, grabbing guys, humanitarian interogations, hacking, vents... all that awesome shit. maybe we should write ubisoft some letters before they go too far. but to not stray too far from the topic, i definitely recommend playing Conviction, it's damn fun. fyi, that pic of Conviction up top there, is from the scrapped first build of the game, where he was gonna be walking around towns getting into fights with chairs and making cover out of everything... it sounded exciting, but i totally dig what ubi gave us.
one thing to add, i'm not a huge fan of 3rd person shooters cuz they usually suck. i didn't even play more than 10 minutes of the "legendary" gears of war... splinter cell: conviction, while it shouldn't be, is a great 3rd person shooter with slick stealth mechanics and the most forgiving aiming assistance... but (damn... more thoughts) I've always said, it shouldn't take 30 seconds to line up a headshot in a video game, you're playing as a badass, thumbstick aiming is nothing like actual aiming so it should be smoothed out and assisted. k... i'm tapped

Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
I'm not a fan of stealth games but I'm interested in this one.
Do I have to be all stealthy and strategic throughout the whole game or can I let loose with some run 'n gun, "all guns blazing" type shit?

Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction
you have to use cover... and you should (though i didn't much) make use of flashbangs and emp grenades and whatnot... you have to kill a guy with your hands to earn marks for quick executions... it is however, a very fast paced stealth game, which has to do with why it's a short game... run and gunning tho, will get you killed, somewhat quickly... the aiming system doesn't really support that sort of approach, there's no "lock on" or "switch target" mechanics, it's a precision game
this guys pretty good, you can get a good idea of how it goes...
oh, and there are lots of guns... pistols, sub machine guns, assault rifles, shotguns... all with upgrades/attachments

Hey, now that you changed your avatar, I forgot who exactly who you are. Are you the guy with the racecar, or that guy with the little man on fire? And who's the guy in your new avatar?Pulsar_t wrote:Conviction doesn't offer the option to be a "humanist". It's Ironside! Scanners, Starship Troopers, Total Recall... McBain....... Command & Conquer 3 ¬_¬Niode wrote: Ugh I hate his voice. It just does not match the character at all. It doesn't sound like it's Sam Fisher talking at all, it seriously could not have been voiced by a worse voice actor (I know the guy is some famous actor, I don't care, he's not been in any films that I really like, that I noticed, anyway).
Starship troopers!
I've always thought the guy to be a bit of a ledge, therefore I always thought it to be quite novel that he voiced a chracter in a game. I also thought his voice suited the character until now. Sam's changed a bit.
To be honest, I only played the demo, but the ease at which you can kill people and the lack of stealth (which is what this series is supposed to be about...) has put me off a bit.

I thought Ironside didn't agree to do the voice. I bet he'd never say no to a few extra bucksMikeyW wrote: It's Ironside! Scanners, Starship Troopers, Total Recall... McBain....... Command & Conquer 3 ¬_¬
