I wouldn't consider them shmups, but they would be relevant to the interests of a shmup fan. Much like how a 2D Fighter fan would probably also be interested in Beat 'Em Ups.

He already has Assaults Suits Leynos 2 in the list, that's probably why he asked about Metal Slug. For Metal Slug, get the first Metal Slug game for the Sega Saturn and then get the Metal Slug Anthology (assuming you have a PS2). The first Metal Slug has controller lag on the Anthology.
