Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.

Also did the neo geo cd even come to north america or am I just stupid and cant find anything for it ? I cant find any american games or consoles its all straight out of japan. Not that it matters unless I play a game with text but still. The AES system translates japanese games to english if you put them in an american console does the ngcd do that as well ?

thats correct but all the games are in japanese ? I thought it had a american release?

and that there were american games for it the AES got a release state side I believe cause I have read about american released games mainly that if you put a japanese game in the american console it translates it and vise versa if you put a american game in a japanese console it reads in american?

C0r33, just read some wikipedia entries on the Neo Geo. Its not that hard to figure out. The AES is the coolest, most expensive. The MVS was never designed to be played at home but mods have made it possible (its just the guts from an arcade machine). It is cheaper. And the CD is also cheap like the MVS but has the fewest games (73 I think).

If you have $400 go for an AES. If you have $200 go for a Neo Geo CD. And if you have less than that you'll have to really hunt for a deal on a CD or just emulate.

I did read some stuff on a bunch of websites. They all say the same things the system was decent but limited. Im asking what is the best approach and cheapest way to go about this and it seems to be the neo geo cd.

my problem is that I dont know how I go about finding an american one or if that even matters at all when it comes to playing the games on it. Like I said before the AES reads japanese games and translates them to english. I want to know if the cd does the same in which case I will gladly shell out the money for a cd. Load times aren't an issue for me and it seems that finding games for an AES is harder then finding anything for a ngcd

A supergun is basically a condensed arcade cabinet and is used to player Neo Geo MVS games and other arcade games such as CPS2 and Atomiswave through a JAMMA Harness. You can play MVS carts on an AES system by using a MVS to AES Converter. Honestly, I would go MVS over the other two choices. Point being that AES is so expensive that is not even worth it. The CD system isn't bad but the load times really kill the games. For instance the games released later in its life time truly take forever to load. CD games are pretty cheap though, much cheaper than the other two formats. If you had to choose between the AES and CD I would choose CD 100%.

I have the opportunity purchase a MVS cabinet for 300 with 5 games KOF 94, viewpoint, street slame basket ball, samurai showdown, king of monsters and i think the last is metal slug 1! Which is an awesome deal but the cab is a 6 loader and its huge. Other then that though its a sweet deal and I wanna buy it but its so big and a NGCD is only $100 on ebay with some games and it takes up a lot less space. After further research on the NGCD and its atrocious load times im seriously considering the MVS if only I could slim it down : (

I have a Neo Geo CD and I am quite happy with it, not all games have long loading times.
Mine is the American version with a region switch (in case I want blood and Fatalities).
Just check Ebay and be patient, I got mine for $45 boxed with 4 games. But to be honest if everything confuses you so much as it seems reading this thread, you shouldn't get any.
Just stick to PS2 snk compilations, if you hate the controller, they make neo-geo sticks and pads for the ps2.

I picked up a Neo Geo CD last month and I love the thing, yeah it has alot of loading, but what CD console didn't back in the 90's?

I'd say start with the Neo Geo CD, play through the library and see what you like. If you love the system and feel you want to go further; upgrade to the the cart format.
