Agreed, because they are idiots. Yet they have the talent to make awesome stuff. They lack self confidence/fighting power.
Sega had the awesomest thing ever going.
Arcade hardware software
Home hardware software: console and computers sort of.
And what did they do?
....goes back to playing Wonderboy III on the sega Ages ps2 collection inside my PS3
I'd rather have Sega continue making games for other consoles (as much as I do love my Dreamcasts) than to release some kind of Touchscreen (blah! I want tactile feedback thanks!) or Digital Download system... ugh... because at least that way I can actually play their games if I choose to do so.
If Sega releases this new system and it tanks does that mean Nintendo can scoop up the rights to the Shining franchise and put Camelot back to work to give us some real Shining Force games?
Cause if so, that'd be AWESOME.

Sega USA is single handedly responsible for every single failure the company has ever suffered.
Bernie Stolar is a dumbass >.<. Sega left us plenty of memories to enjoy though. I'd like to see a new console, but, it wont happen. At least it probably wont.
I think that the only way that Sega could really make this work would be foremost to separate from Sammy (I have no idea what kind of legal mess that would create, but hear me out) and to merge with a more powerful company who has the name, ambition, and capital necessary to carry a console. A Capcom-Sega merger could be successful in the home, as it's been proven time and time again that the Resident Evil series has the power to move consoles (Resident Evil: Code Veronica on Dreamcast and Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube were major system-selling exclusives) and that would be a merger that would generate some SERIOUS buzz in the gaming community, retro or otherwise. Anyway, Capcom and Sega (and I do mean SEGA, not Sega-Sammy) have always had a fantastic relationship with one another as well as completely unique but in the same kinda weirdly-Japanese-but-in-a-way-Western-gamers-get-hep-with styles of game development.
Anyway, I think that's it's theoretically possible that Sega could jump back into the hardware race, but if they are the same Sega-Sammy when they try it, it simply will not work -- they need to have the creative freedom necessary, and they need something BIG to get gamers to come to their console. A new Sonic game just won't move systems like it used to because Sonic has a bad reputation these days, and outside of that, most of Sega's classics have been forgotten (or were never known) by the current majority of the gaming market. And while some significant piece of new technology needs to be employed, I think that the majority of plausible ideas will be viewed as gimmicky in light of Nintendo's success with the Wii... although something like this might go over well in the home market: And to take things even further, I think that they'd need to drop alot of the shitty personnel that Sammy stuffed leaks with after so many Sega employees left in 2004 and fill them with as many former employees as possible.
To be perfectly honest, I think that the video game industry DESPERATELY NEEDS the same kick in the pants Sega's attitude and quality of the Dreamcast-era provided with the funds to assure enough longevity to actually make headway. They need to work their asses off, innovate like they're insane, not be afraid to be different, strive as the underdog, and just bleed from the heart like they always did while being just a little bit more careful this time around in terms of over-saturating the market and listening to fans from the get-go... oh, and Rev Anthony from Destructoid... they should listen to him, too. In fact, Rev Anthony should be President of Capcom-Sega of America. Hellz yeah.

Except when Sega of Japan employees threw a fit when upper-management seemed to be favoring Sega of America, making Sega choose to go with the Japanese Saturn model that we know today as opposed to Sega of America's model which was essentially the same hardware as the Nintendo 64DD. But yeah, you're mostly right -- although Sega of America did a ton of things right early in the Genesis's lifespan and they did a wonderful job during the Dreamcast's lifespan, they fucked up in SO MANY ways.
