Agree, I found any scaling above 480p were non full screen off center images. XPloder HDTV Player does enhance all those 480i only games to 480p nicely though. Comes in metal case with (though thin) Component Cables. There is also a VGA mode if I ever can find the cables to hook up to a Computer Monitor at a good price.casterofdreams wrote:That Xploder thing is a load of crap. The reviews for that were bad at best.
I have component cables right now but I wanted a little more than boring old 480p.

Re: PS2 Upscaling
Bump.
Has anyone tried this PS2 upscaler?

I understand upscalers aren't magical. But they're convenient and I noticed a little improvement with the Wii one vs component there, curious if PS2 games will improve a bit as well on my Samsung 40".
Onimusha 1-2 looked fine but had pre-rendered backdrops. Now that I'm trying out Onimusha 3 again which is full 3D, it's definitely got the muddy shadowing going on. Still experimenting with my TV settings/sharpness and such, but yeah. Menu's and text are doable for me, but it's mainly just the rough blurring that bugs me.

Re: PS2 Upscaling
Since this thread has been bumped I'll ask here too.
What's the best way to force games into 480p without extensive modding? I understand a lot of people don't like the Xploder but does it work okay for 480p? I mean, Wipeout seems to look pretty good.

Re: PS2 Upscaling
That definitely looks slick. Pretty much what I'm hoping to do with this TV and all, maximizing the PS2's potential on it. Which can't surpass a CRT, but yeah just wanting to make my setup an all for one thing for now and keep my PS2 out and active.
Re: PS2 Upscaling
It turns out that Game Mode improves things a little bit on my end for my Samsung. I hated what that did to movies and modern consoles, but yeah. Seems to improve the lag a little bit for the PS2.

Re: PS2 Upscaling
To niode I don't think there are any games on the PS2 that are natively 720p non upscaled unless it is some Japanese or American game that I never heard of that is natively 720p?

Re: PS2 Upscaling
I no longer have a PS2 so I don't really remember much about this topic. I didn't realize how long ago I started this thread.
Anyway from what I remember the two God Of War games were the only two that I owned that benefited from the Monster Component cables that I had. Other games still had jagged lines but were clearer overall in terms of picture quality. This is going by a TV I no longer have which was an old Sony CRT 32" TV that can output a max of 1080i and 720p.

Still waiting on niode on that question regarding 720p native PS2 games so is there any? Because from the looks of it I do know of any PS2 game with 720p resolution native.

Thanks Hobie wan. Was only curious because sometimes lists can be wrong and was hoping there was one.
