Yeah, my PSP mem stick got wiped out too. I lost my FF Tactics save file, which had Ramza as a LV 99 Dark Knight. I should have backed my files up on my computer. :x

Most recent one I can remember right now is Devil May Cry 3.
As Dante, I beat everything from Very Easy, to Very Hard, and was working on Dante Must Die. Maxed out all guns, all Devil Arms, and all styles, except Royal Guard at level 2.

Now, I wanted to take a break from all that, so I decided to start a save data as Vergil. It was all ok, until I went to go save. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one this happened to.

When you're asked to save, it doesn't highlight to a free slot, it always highlights your first save slot first, and I always kind of rush when I save since I have one save, so I just kept choosing OK.
It was only until I went to play again that I realized I saved my fresh Vergil data over my almost complete Dante data. I haven't touched the game since...

Back in the Sega Saturn days, I was playing Shining Force III: Scenario 3 when it was brand stinking new, freshly imported from Japan. I had gotten towards the end of the game and had only the final battle left to do. Right as I went to save the game, the game locked up, hard.

My memory cart had officially died. I lost all my save progress for scenarios 1 through 3, along with all my other save data such as my perfect playthrough of Panzer Dragoon Zwei, my scores on Radiant Silvergun, my saves on Panzer Dragoon Saga... you get the idea. Basically, in order to get back to where I was in Shining Force III Scenario 3, I had to replay the previous two scenarios from scratch, getting all the extra treasure in the tombs, making sure all characters survive, making certain key decisions, etc. Each scenario takes 25-30 hours to complete, so it took me about 80 hours of gaming just to get back to where I was so I could finally beat the game.

I was furious beyond belief when it happened.

All these stories are each so heartbreaking and painful to read. I think any true gamer must have experienced this pain before, and yet it comes at you in so many different ways. I've often wondered how a person with a level head would react to losing such data, like "Oh well, time to start over I guess." I just can't imagine it. Every time something like this happens to me I get really mad and have to walk away immediately and usually can't touch the game for a couple weeks or months.

On a side note, having 3 brothers to play games against growing up we would constantly be fighting each other and flipping out when we would go head to head on games. Our biggest fights were over games likes Little League Baseball (NES), Tecmo Super Bowl (NES), and NHL 94 (Genesis). They are all amazing sports games for kids and are still competitive and fun today. Any time the game would get out of hand like 10-2 and another point was scored the opponent would usually flip out and throw the controller at the NES. I mean, you really didn't give a shit about what would happen you were just pissed.

Oh man this crap... WWF No Mercy on the N64. Got myself a bad cart never got it replaced. I loved the game but could never play the storyline because halfway through, the game would erase itself.. I had myself a AVGN moment at 16 years old.

Out of all my years playing games, I have never had a save file go bad. Of course, after typing this I'll probably find five of my carts have stopped saving.

My cousin stepped on my first PS1 mem card with Legend of dragoon save at almost 100% completion, I was 6 at the time, I had literally spent almost a full year every day after school playing it to get to that point,
