Interesting. From everything I've read of other CDX owners, most claims are that they either don't work at all or boot initially only to fail soon thereafter. Mine will boot backups when the system is cold (off for at least a few hours) but they generally fail within a couple of hours. For most of the games I play, it's actually not that big of a deal (I can normally get through a full game of Sonic CD before it craps out), but once that disc has trouble catching, that's it.

Original games, on the other hand, have never given me any problems.

I ended up winning A cdx and 32x with a few games and controllers for $115 on ebay. I was looking at spending more than that just on the JVC x'eye. I think I made the right choice. Now I just need to get some of those awesome Sega CD RPG's I always hear about.

i used to own a cdx, and i also had trouble with certain types of cd-rs working. verbatim and taiyo-yuden are the way to go. i had some cheap cd-rs with the light greenish ink and they experience slow load times and lots of disc read errors in the cd-audio portions of the games.

the cd-x has decent audio output, but the output volume is low. i will have to agree that you should look for another sega cd console if music is important to you. of course, the small footprint of the console is great if you don't have a lot of space

AFAIK, the CDX has a different controller port layout so it is incompatible with any Genesis controller add-ons such as the 4 player adapter or (my fav) the wireless controllers. The JVC's ports *appear* to be the same as the Genesis's. Someone can send me an X'eye and I'll find out for sure ;)

old thread is old...

but since you brought it up, the CDX *WILL* work with wireless controllers and addons if you use simple controller extension cables to address the different positioning of the ports.

Or you can simply use 1 wireless controller at a time like I did:

CDX has better Master System compatibility. Power Base Converter just fits without being modifying, and Everdrive MD loads SMS roms correctly on CDX. (soft reset into SMS mode doesn't work for X'eye)
Lum fan.
