Re: GBA Movie Player and homebrew?

I haven't had a chance to look at my setup yet... but this is what I use Goomba Color, I have the Goomba.gba in the root of my CF card and my .gb roms in a GB folder on the CF card. I'm thinking that the .gba rom needs to be compiled specifically to run on the GBA Movie Player however now that I think of it... I somewhat remember having to set flags in my compiler when making my own code.

Edit: Also there is no need to join roms to the emulators... you just run the Goomba.gba or PocketNES.gba and select your rom from whatever directory you keep them in from within said emulator.

there must be something I'm not doing. Like I said, I can not actually run PocketNES.gba ...but when I launch a NES ROM, it will run PocketNES for me.

Watching movies on my GBA is something I have always wanted to do.

Is there a primer on that subject that someone would highly recommend?

Do you have a picture of your GBA Movie Player? Does it look like this?

In the wiki article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GBA_Movie_Player there's this:
Console emulation

The built-in NES and Game Boy loaders have size limitations; the emulator plus game must fit inside 256 KB of memory. Special versions of PocketNES and Goomba were created to overcome these limitations. One special version of PocketNES, called PocketNES-compy, uses compression to shrink the game before it is loaded. In that version, games are limited to 256k instead of 192k. Another version can load files directly off the CompactFlash card using virtual memory techniques, bypassing all size limitations of the usual built-in software but creating slowdown on some of the larger games. The special versions were created independently of the company which makes the movie player, using information discovered through reverse engineering
So it sounds like you need a special version in order to load directly off the CF card as the other poster mentioned.

EDIT: Here's another wiki article that is pretty good.

nope. That's the M3 (aka, 3rd version). Mine is the 2nd version (which used a CF card.) Looks like this: Image

Did you ever get anywhere with this?

It looks like there's a good wiki page at pocketheaven that has details on the GBA Movie player. http://www.pocketheaven.com/ph/wiki/GBA_Movie_Player

I own the same one you do. The red/white second version. I'm going to look at it tonight... and I'll post my findings.

I also recommend looking at that Wiki page that was posted. It has great info on it. Make sure the versions of Goomba and PocketNES are the versions posted on that Wiki page as they are made specifically for the GBAMP!
