Question about your sony 36". So Saturn looks good on it? The older games arent pixelated and stretched? Im also looking at an old Trinitron strictly for PS2/PS1/Saturn and was planning on using S-Video, but worry about bad quality.
Does your TV support HD and light guns? Please post model number if so.
My setups so far - thanks for looking

Sorry about jumping in, might be able to help. I have found on " Pre-HD" game consoles, the CRT gives a better pic over LCD. Best bet would be Component for PS2 hooked up to a HD CRT followed by S-Video for the PS1. The Saturn S-Video or if you have PAL RGB SCART. LCDs with older consoles tend to show Dot Crawl.asr10 user wrote:Question about your sony 36". So Saturn looks good on it? The older games arent pixelated and stretched? See my signature link for a comparison between CRT and LCD, might be of help.

Yeah, the games look really good in s-vid on the sony. Its not quite as good as component for PS2 on the it, but real close. The biggest difference I see is that the S-video games have just a tad (i mean minimal) color bleeding, which is expected with s-vid.
As for stretched - my sony wega trinitron is 4:3 so its in native form for those games. Sure the sharp picture does expose some of the pixels, but that is just the way it is. I much prefer a sharp vibrant pixelated picture instead of a washed out composite that hides the pixels.
To be completely honest, I wouldn't prefer any setup out there for standard def games (saturn, ps1/2, n64, snes, etc), besides maybe an RGB monitor (36" ?) or maybe getting a scart to component deal with scart cables for the systems that support it. Not sure if Ill ever do that though, just because of the expense and number of power bricks.
Oh and as for the comparison between CRT and lcd/plasma, its no contest for me. I have tried my DC vga through many tvs and monitors, crt, lcd, and plasma - crt ALWAYS looked superior (it was close with the plasmas) to me personally, with that Viewsonic flatscreen CRT I have now ranking best ever! Im serious about that monitor. Its a very high-end screen and if you come across one for cheap, get it! It was originally made to meet the needs of professional graphic design.

I'm a graphic designer, and I can vouch for viewsonic monitors. They beat any other CRT computer monitor on the market.

Here's the stats on it: http://ftp.viewsonic.com/support/deskto ... ies/p225f/ of what I can comprehend of all that, it seems pretty good stuff!
I actually saw a listing of $625 for it while I was looking for that page. I paid $50 for it at our local used pc shop.

The crazy part, everyone is throwing out beautiful CRTs such as this one and going LCD.Capcomwarrior wrote:Here's the stats on it: http://ftp.viewsonic.com/support/deskto ... ies/p225f/ of what I can comprehend of all that, it seems pretty good stuff!
