You have Mario Kart over the Internet with WiFi in the form of the DS game. And it's a fine version, IMHO.

While I agree with you that using the Internet for multiplayer and scrapping friend codes from most games should be a priority for Nintendo's DS2, I am certain not enough people are still playing GBA to bother retrofitting a Internet <-> Link cable interface.
