Yes of course, I suppose I'm just in the dark because I haven't had a look at a N64 in a while. Do they have special screws with uncommon heads that you need a special tool for? That always stopped me on those electronics with them.

I wouldn't even do that. Wouldn't it be easiest just to swap the outer cases and not mess with the insides at all?
Uh, I think that is the same thing.

P.S. I have no experience in changing cases on N64, is it simple? I have a very fond memory of buying that memory expansion pack and installing it quite easily so I could play Rogue Squadron or something.
I can see why Moderator (Ack) would change the color from red to black, some members use different backgrounds such as Google Chrome and red might be hard to see. Even with a white background, red is faded on some monitors. My signature also has some red in it but the main Post (so everyone can read easily) is in black.

Back on Topic.
Frictionator - Have you tried a basic composite yet? A chance it might work, even with that chip looking like its bad.

thecommontask - Swapping out guts very easy to do. take your time, You do need a 4.5mm game bit. Or couple Bic pen ends melted to fit the screw.

Here is a link that shows how to take shell off N64.

but would you be putting a motherboard into a new case, or putting a new case round the motherboard? :P

nah, I had a suspicion that would be the case  Shows how much I know about modding and the inner workings of consoles!
