Instead of calling it Yakuza, they could have Westernized it more and called it something like Japanese Bad Ass Dude. I think Yakuza is fine.

It's too bad they think they need to take that kind of stuff out. I was impressed with Persona 4 because it dared to be a very Japanese game. Actually, that's part of what I liked about Persona 4 because I felt like I was learning a little bit about Japanese culture, like some of their unique holidays and things like that.

Don't worry, I'll get the game. I'll just be getting it used. If you are going to give me part of a game, then I'll be paying part of the price... and be giving you none of the profit.

I know it's a pretty small part of the game, but you know what? It's the little things that count. It's the little things that come together, and make me feel like I'm in a universe unto itself, rather than a series of lines of code.

"I understand not buying all games at full price. I don't feel that many of the games I buy deserve it. However, I don't think that buying half-priced games should be some badge of honor for the hardcore.

I've seen you comment on Kotaku a good bit, so I know you can't have missed how many "Day one purchase" comments there have been for games over the past few months (especially as a game gets close to launch). Spoiler alert: most these people aren't gonna do it! If these people meant what they were saying, there'd be a helluvalot more niche games selling shit-tons. It's like some guilty knee-jerk reaction because they know they should support the developer and publisher as a means to get more interesting and original titles, but they just aren't going to. As I said before, the little dipshits will probably latch on to some minuscule and easily overlooked fault to pull a "I was gonna buy it, but then I heard... (insert lame excuse)" sorta thing. It's probably something they'd overlook in another, more important game (think Wind Waker's camera), but they literally claw at the walls for any excuse to back out of their little spoken committment."

Day-one claimantss are mostly full of excrement. Anyway I want to play devil's advocate and applaud Sega for this decision. And if the game doesn't sell I will chide anyone who demands Yakuza 4 be localised.

This seriously, seriously wouldn't piss me off so bad if it weren't for the excuse they gave.

They just unilaterally determined that we Westerners couldn't handle some of the more Japanese elements of the game. In essence, this is Sega shifting the blame from themselves onto us.

That shit does not fly with me. They could have just as easily said "We didn't have the money or time, and there was too much to translate" and just left it at that, but they didn't. We are the reason elements like running a bar and playing parlor games didn't make it in. And that's bullshit.

I bought the American release of Tatsunoko vs Capcom at full price. And that game had plenty of cut content. Capcom didn't blame us for that content being cut, though - and as such, I don't have any problem with buying TvC now and importing the Japanese version sometime in the future.

Do I want the Yakuza series to fail in America? No. But I don't want it to be butchered to high hell just so they can market the game to Joe Shmoe and his MW2 clan. If this is how Sega is going to treat it, I'd rather they leave it the hell alone and let Sony, Atlus, or somebody who gives a damn have their hand at bringing it over.

sigh.. i hate it when the company decide whats best for the customer, despite the fact that people interested in this game already have an interest in Japanese culture.

This was the very thing that stopped me from checking out the western release of TvC, when they cut some of the mini games, removed the animated endings (in favor of mediocre Udon stills), and removing the original characters themes.

I think I'm just better off trying to learn Japanese. it'll take ages, but at least it'll save me from putting up with this horseshit.

That's the spirit. I felt the same way and actually managed to learn Japanese. Being able to buy the often superior Japanese versions of games and understand them feels so great.
