I love to read. I read about 40 novels a year. Besides video games, and music, This is one of my main hobbies and the cheapest too. Just go to Salvation army and 50¢-99¢ per book. I currently own close to 500 books. I started actively reading since 7 reading all of Roald Dahl. I read the Odyssey at 9 and 2010 at 10. My favorite genres are Thrillers, Historical, Sci-Fi/Fantasy (only a select few authors I read, its mostly a bunch of LotR/Foundation/Dune wanna be's), Court room drama ( I can't stand the TV shows though unless you count Mattlock) and the Classics.

So far this month I read:

Pirate's Latitude - Micheal Crichton (Favorite triller author. Feels more like his earlier work, not as preachy as some of his later novels.)

True Blue - David Baldacci (He's one of my favorite thriller writers, If like any of his works you'll like this one also)

The Charlemagne Pursuit - Steve Berry (One of the best historical thriller authors but this one is his weakest novel to date. Usig too many of the same charecters its start to get old)

Childhood's End - Arthur C. Clarke (second time reading it. Not only is he my favorite Sci-fi author but my favorite author period. I loved this book, it made me think of my own purpose in life)

I am starting Hunters of Dune - Brian Herbert next lets hope he can do as good as his father did with the series.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

I'm really glad to see someone else who loves that book as much as I do. I first read it in high school for a class and thought it was absolutely amazing. I really should read more of Clarke's work.

Hmmm, good to see that many of you read as well as play games - perhaps it is time for a Racketboy book-of-the month thread?

I do so much reading for my job/research that I rarely have time for fiction. That said, Crichton's final novel has been on my to do list since I received it at Xmas....

No don't do it. I'll never keep up, It takes me at least a month to read a book! I don't habitually read like my fiancee, she can blast through books like it's nothing, I'm lucky if I read a chapter before I fall asleep with it on my face.

What if they were short (say around 200 pages)?

I currently a little over halfway though The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. It's really good, if not a bit slow at times. Murakami has such a way of creating melancholy surreal realms, that are still beautiful and full of life.

Before that was The Stranger by Albert Camus. Easily one of my favorite authors, Camus is great at creating living characters. I read The Plague before that.

The book before that was Catch-22.
