I get what your saying and your right i do need to get a 360 just for the XBLA service(I WANT MY FUCKING FEZ NOA) and Flower and Lost Winds were very good BUT the horrible truth is that both of those games are terably short for the about of content they bring, Flower lends it self for repetitiveness in a good way but lost winds simply ends and theres nothing you can do about itcorn619 wrote:This thread is a little confusing, you said you don't like new games because of a lack of innovation and new ideas. Yet the last game you said you enjoyed was Twilight Princess, which has to be the reused game idea in the history of games. This game has been recycling this mechanic since 1985 and does nothing new that I haven't seen before.
Lack of exposure due to you new not owning and new consoles, really cripples your ability to see all the great new games out there. Games like Mass Effect don't really turn me on as well, but that doesn't mean the whole gaming landscape is barren of new ideas and innovation. For example, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, Madworld, Persona 3 & 4, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Boom Blox, Trauma Center, Loco Roco, Muramasa and Valkyria Chronicles all bring something new and different to the table. I'm sure theres others but thats just off the top of my head.
Then theres the downloadable games that are bursting with freshness and creativity. Braid, The Dishwasher Dead Samurai, Flower, Flow, Linger In Shadows, Lost Winds and countless others are all doing things never done in gaming before. You really can't experience any of these games unless you have newer consoles which you said you didn't have. To state that there is no more innovation in games these days because you didn't like Mass Market Effect 2 is a unfair statement, theres tons if you look.

Did you like them? Are these the kinds of games you're looking for? I've always got more ideas.thetooth wrote:Played and finished them all but Trails sadly.J T wrote:If you want a new game more focused on play control, why not try a game like Mirror's Edge, Street Fighter IV, Left 4 Dead 2, Trials 2 (aka Trials HD), Trine, or Team Fortress 2?

Yeah i enjoyed Mirror's Edge the most out of those followed by SFIV(even though i can't play it for shit on keyboard).J T wrote:Did you like them? Are these the kinds of games you're looking for? I liked Mirror's Edge because it was a fps but they had something interesting to do in it, similar to what hl2 did with physics itself.

In that case, you might want to try Zeno Clash if you haven't already. It's an FPS, but it focuses more on up close brawling than it does on shooting. It's also got a weird story and is set in a really original and beautiful fantasy world. It's kind of a short game, but I really enjoyed it and it is one of the more memorable virtual worlds I've had the pleasure of entering.
Another game to check out, is Prey. It's a bit over-the-top, but it has some really original ideas about tweaking the rules of gravity, space, and time. It's also a rare treat to see a game based on Native American mysticism. I only wish it focused more on that and less on flesh hungry space mutants.

yeah- critics panned it and I have no idea why. It is totally fun.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:A lot of new games don't interest me but I had had a leftover gift card from my birthday that I needed to spend at BestBuy. I ended up getting Bionic Commando because there wasn't really anything left on the shelf but when I got home I got a special suprise. The game is (at least for me) absolutely awesome.

I guess I have a dirty mind because I thought we were talking about something other than why new games are as good as old ones.

What about all the other games I've mentioned? Have you tried any of them? If so, did you like them? And as far as downloadable game length goes, those games are a fraction of the price of a retail game so of course they'll be shorter. I had a hard time understanding your post, what did you mean when you wrote Lost Winds simply ends and theres nothing you can do about it? All games end eventually, so this was a little confusing to understand.thetooth wrote:I get what your saying and your right i do need to get a 360 just for the XBLA service(I WANT MY FUCKING FEZ NOA) and Flower and Lost Winds were very good BUT the horrible truth is that both of those games are terably short for the about of content they bring, Flower lends it self for repetitiveness in a good way but lost winds simply ends and theres nothing you can do about itcorn619 wrote:This thread is a little confusing, you said you don't like new games because of a lack of innovation and new ideas. Re: Why don't new games turn me on?
I made an account just to post in this thread. I AGREE 100%, games are just getting staler as they grow less and less original and more and more graphically oriented. I've played most of the games mentioned in this thread and found most of them to lack that 'magic' that makes fun games the old days so accessible – not quite sure what it is.
I think a large part of it is simply that we are growing older and having to deal with prioritizing our lives as well as our games, and so create reasons why we don't like a game at a given time or place.

Have you played any of the Rebirth series on the Wii? Might be something you want to look into.
